I was bored one afternoon so I decided to grab my ds and play Pokémon heartgold. I had been getting so use to the new 3ds Pokemon games, so I decided to go back to the somewhat older games. I don't know why, I just enjoyed going back and playing the games where there weren't any 3D graphics. It just brought back so many memories from my childhood.
I put the game into my old ds and started it up. I was against the wall next to the outlet since my ds wasn't charged at all. It has to be years since I had last played it. It felt weird holding the small ds in my hands once again, but it was enjoyable.
The game started up just fine and showed ho-oh flying through the sky on the title screen. I pressed the start button and found my old save file. I was excited to go through and see my old Pokémon team. I honestly couldn't even remember what my starter Pokémon was.
Once it was opened, I immediately checked my party. I was actually pretty impressed. My main Pokemon was a level 100 typlosion. Along with that, I had a level 78 shiny gyarados, a level 90 pidgeot, a level 85 vaporeon, a level 99 ho-oh, and a level 82 scyther. Considering there was no exp. share in heartgold, I was pretty impressed with the high level Pokemon that I had.
I was on victory road, so I assumed that I was just leveling up my Pokémon since I had already beaten the elite four and I had ho-oh. I decided that for fun, I'd take on the elite four again. I was still in the middle of victory road so I figured that I'd just go through it to get to the elite four instead of just using dig and then fly.
As I walked through victory road, I obviously encountered several pokemon. This is when things got a little...strange. I sent out my typlosion, which was as I said at level 100. After defeating a couple of Pokémon, I realized that my typlosion had leveled up. It was now at level 101. I was pretty surprised. Pokémon could only reach level 100 and then stopped getting stronger after that but for some reason my typlosion had surpassed it. I figured it was some kind of glitch and it would probably be harmless.
As I exited victory road, I realized that hadn't encountered anymore Pokemon after leveling up. I continued to walk until I eventually reached the elite four. There was a strange sprite standing there as I approached closer. I didn't remember seeing it before, but I figured I just forgot since it had been so long since the last time I played.
Once I had interacted with the sprite, things got more strange. In the text box were the words, "Level 101? You cannot fight the elite four. You're the one we all feared for. Leave now."
This definitely didn't seem like something someone would say in a Pokémon game. It just seemed so out of place. I tried walking in, but every time I tried the sprite would just say "level 101". This couldn't just simply be a glitch. The game apparently knew what was happening, but I certainly didn't. I had never seen anything like this before, not even online.
I turned around and started to walk back, but the screen looked glitchy after the conversation I had with the sprite. Some things were out of place, while other spots just didn't exist. The screen just looked plain glitchy. It was like the game was broken, but I knew that when I put it in that it was in good condition.
I walked back into victory road, it instead glitches and sent me to Lavender town. I took one step before it glitches once again and sent me to the professor's lab. I was at least able to walk around the lab without it sending me somewhere else, but the game still looked different. The colors looked slightly darker and the music played slower. I knew it was just a game, but I had to admit that I was getting creeped out. I was also curious, however, so I just kept playing to see what else would happen.
I walked around and tried to talk to one of the scientists. "The professor is curious about you and your Pokémon, but he's not here. Come back later, by he careful." He said to me.
It felt like I was playing a completely different game, but I knew it didn't use to be like this. It couldn't just be a glitch. I tried talking to the other scientists, but they said nothing. It's like I didn't even talk to them, even though I was clicking on the buttons.
I tried going back to the scientist that talked to me before, but this time he said, "the professor wants to talk to you, not me. I'm creeped out and I don't understand it. Please just go."
I turned around and walked out of the lab. There was clearly nothing else for me to do there. The game still appeared glitchy. The music didn't get any better, it was still slow and disturbing. I was glad I wasn't wearing headphones.
I then decided to check my Pokémon party and realized that the only Pokémon in my party was the typlosion. I don't know how, but my other Pokemon just disappeared. This seemed way too strange to me. Why was the game doing this? I knew it wasn't a hacked version so I just couldn't exactly process why this was happening.
I attempted to walk into houses, but nothing worked. I couldn't even enter the house where my mother in the game existed. I didn't even see any sprites. I was alone in the game as it continued to glitch. Not only that, but the glitches were getting worse as things moved all around the screen. Even my game would start saving without me even doing anything.
The typlosion that was suppose to follow me was now moving around unpredictably. It was still behind me, but not in a straight line like it is suppose to. At times, it even just walked around in circles around me.
Out of no where, my game crashed. I almost wanted to just stop playing, but I decided to start it back up again anyway. The game started as normal just as before, but once I clicked on my saved game, it opened and showed me on victory road once again. The screen was still glitchy so I knew that it hadn't stopped. I colors were even darker and were nearly black and white. Only little color was shown.
The typlosion sprite stood in front of me and I could not move. I mashed all kinds of buttons and tried moving around. I still remained in the same spot as the music grew slower and slower. As the music grew slower, the graphics became more and more glitchy until you could barley see what was one the screen.
Suddenly it faded to black. Level 101. Game over. It read in the text. I tried pressing buttons but nothing still worked. I decided to shut off my ds and start it up again. I then attempted to open my save file it instead it said," Start new game, level 101,"
Anytime I tried to start the game up again, I'd simply be in a dark room with my typlosion. I couldn't even start a new game. I still don't understand what happened and if there was a meaning behind it but for now, I'm just staying away from that game.
