Alolan formed Pokemon are meant to help them survive in a different environment. They look different, and even act different from the original of that Pokémon. They need the alolan form in order to survive.
Unfortunately, there was a rattata that had somehow gotten into the Alola region. It wasn't an alola form, so survival was difficult. It was a bright purple, which made it more easily found by predators. These forms aren't just to look different. It's necessary for them. Non-alolan formed Pokemon like rattata couldn't survive. Other Pokemon would spot them easily or the environment just wasn't right for them and they would did since they weren't in their natural habitat.
The rattata died within two days. It was attacked and torn to pieces. Even if that didn't happen, it would die from the heat since it wasn't made to live in that environment.
It's scary to think of what can happen to these innocent little Pokémon. Nature can be cruel, even in the world of Pokémon.
