Lucario stood there as everyone waited for the battle to begin. His trainer expected him to be strong and to win the battle. The truth was that Lucario had never even been in a battle in his life. He would sneak rare candies so it would appear that he was getting stronger, but in reality, nothing had changed. He wasn't a fighter.
Pushing all of his training away had finally caught up to him. He was now standing inside of a stadium with everyone expecting him to fight, especially his trainer. His palms were shaking and sweating as he tried to pull himself together. He tried looking tough as determined, but he knew he couldn't hide all of his fear back. His anxiety was taking over. He began to feel light headed as he tried to hide his shaming palms and legs.
Cheering began to fill the crowd as the other trainer stepped into the stadium. Lucario's eyes widened with horror. He knew there was no going back. He didn't want to fight. He wasn't strong enough and he didn't want to hurt anyone. Lucario turned around to see the determination on his trainer's face. His trainer smiled at him. Lucario tried to smile back, but he knew his smile wouldn't look real enough. He just turned around and faced the other trainer once again.
The trainer threw his Pokémon and sent out an onix. The onix stared down at him. There was no going back. Everyone was going to know what a fake he was. There was no way he could hurt another Pokémon. Even if he wanted to, he knew he wasn't nearly strong enough. Lucario clutched his fists as tough as he could. He couldn't calm his nerves. He felt like he was going to throw up. He couldn't tell if the water streaming down his face was sweat, tears, or both. He couldn't focus on anything except his overwhelming fear.
The announcers began talking as the crowd cheered. Lucario didn't listen to a single word. It all just sounded like muffles.
Before he knew it, they shouted; "Let the Pokémon battle tournament begin!"
Loud voices yelled and cheered. Lucario's head began to hurt, along with all of his nerves. He wanted to take a deep breath but he knew if he did he'd start hyperventilating. Onix looked ready to fight.
"Lucario, use jump kick!" His trainer shouted.
Lucario froze completely. He tried his hardest to move his body, but he was frozen in fear. He slowly began moving his body forward. It felt like he wasn't even moving at all. He was so light headed, it felt like some kind of a dream. Almost as if his legs were moving without him knowing it.
"Come on, Lucario! I said use jump kick!" His trainer shouted.
His trainer wasn't usually the yelling type, but Lucario knew how important this tournament was to him. His trainer was clearly getting frustrated with him, only making his anxiety worse.
"Onix! Use rock smash!" Shouted the other trainer impatiently.
Without hesitation, onix began hurling rocks at Lucario.
"Lucario! Dodge his attack and use jump kick!"
Paralyzed by his fear, he stood there. The rocks struck him several times, sending him to the ground. Lucario didn't want to get up, but he knew it was the least he could do.
"Lucario, what are you doing?" His trainer shouted out, his voice full of rage and frustration.
"Onix use iron tail!"
Lucario felt a sudden impact on the side of his head, sending him onto the ground once again. Lucario wanted to muster up the strength to fight back, but he just couldn't. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't hurt another Pokémon. Even if that Pokémon was hurting him, he still couldn't do it.
Lucario lifted up his arm and felt the side of his head. He felt a warm, wet liquid ooze onto his hand. Once he took his hand off of his head, he could see that blood was clearly coming from his head.
"Lucario! Use high kick right now!"
Lucario couldn't continue to put up with the guilt. He knew that he wasn't going to fight back. The only battle that was happening was the battle inside his head. So Lucario followed his trainer's orders.
Lucario sent himself flying into the air. Although instead of preparing to strike onix with the high jump, he moved his body to purposely make himself land straight into his head. He was killed instantly from the impact.
