The next day proceeded as per usual, getting up, snagging breakfast, painting the town blue, etc.
But, as you were leaving your mark on another one of the more popular buildings, you heard the familiar, and always irritating voice of none other than Mero City's hero speak.
"Good morning, Megapainter, or should I say, (Y/n)." He said, saying the last part quieter. You rolled your eyes and turned to look as he descended from above, landing in front of you.
"What do you want, Metro munch? And I thought I told you not to say my name!" You hissed with hostility. Metro Man was the only one in the city who truly knew who you were and why you did the things you did. You knew he had sympathy for you, so he tried to be kind and comfort you, but you didn't care. He was Megamind's rival, and any enemy of his is an enemy of yours.
He sighed a bit. "Yes, but, it's been awhile since I've come to see you, have you been well lately?" He asked, ignoring our insult. He had quickly gotten use to way you treated him, he was just that kind-hearted. It made you sick.
"Tch, I've been just fine thank you very much." You stated boldly. He chuckled. "Good. You know, even though I know you'll probably always hate me, I'll always think of you as my friend." "Yeah, well, I won't." You scoffed, returning to your painting. "Ha, as cold as ever I see." He added.
"I'm sure Megamind would be proud." He suddenly said, making you pause. "He doesn't even know I exist." You mumbled, turning your head to him slightly. "Oh, come on, I'm sure if you keep this up you'll be one of Megamind's minions in no time!"
"Is that supposed to be a joke?" You sneered, then cringed in disgust as you felt his hand on your shoulder. "I mean it! You're loyal to what you do, and that takes patience and determination. You may just be a kid, but I can see you've got a lot of potential." He continued.
"Yeah, right. Don't you have people to save or something?" You wriggled your shoulder out of his grip. "Not right now, and that's a good thing, because I wanted to talk to you about something important." You gave an exaggerated sigh. "Whaaaat." You turned to him again.
He knelt down to you out of nowhere and opened the glass part of your helmet, revealing a slight view of your face. "I thought I also said the helmet's off limits." He just chuckled again. "Listen, something's about to change. I don't know what it is yet, but this city is going to face something far more powerful than anything it has seen before. And I'm not gonna be there to stop it."
At that, your eyes widened. "What do you mean? You're Metro Man, nothing can stop you." You said a bit unwillingly. "Well, perhaps even the strongest of heroes meet their end at some point." You tilted your head a bit confused.
He suddenly took your hand in his and placed something small into your palm. "What's... this?" You raised a brow. You looked at it and saw that it was a small star pin. "It's a gold star, for being the clever little trouble-maker you are." He smiled a bit playfully. You just looked up at him dumbfounded.
"I want you to hold onto it as a little token from me, and I'd also be grateful if you'd come check out the museum opening today. In return, I'll let you paint on one of these buildings and make sure no one erases it, deal?" You smiled a little, liking the idea of having one of your masterpieces be left alone. "Sure, why not." He chuckled and booped your nose from inside the helmet, making you growl a little.
"Well, I have a museum opening to attend to, so I'll see you around kid." He closed the glass on your helmet covering your face once more, then stood, patted your helmet, and flew off.
You hummed a little in thought, looking down at the gold star briefly. You put it in your pocket and went back to your painting to finish up. "'Museum opening'? That's gotta be because it's Metro Man Day." You thought.
Metro Man Day was the day you loathed the most, it was all Metro Man 'this' and 'Metro Man 'that'. It was just revolting. Everyone loved Metro Man so much they gave him his own day, it just made you wanna gag.
You sighed a bit. "But I promised I'd be there..." You thought.
You put the finishing touches on your 'M' and raced off on your skateboard to where the museum opening was taking place.
