The next morning the house seemed quiet. The only conversations consisted of basic things, like what we should eat for dinner or when we should go to the beach again. Nothing that interested me. I was sitting in one of the chairs in the kitchen with Marcus, Alfie and Caspar. Tyler hadn’t even shown himself today.

“I wonder if I’ll ever meet Mila Kunis” Caspar suddently said, breaking the silence that had been going on for several minutes. No response. Marcus and Alfie just looked at their food as they continued eating.

“She’s so hot. I wonder if she’s ever met a Caspar before”

I looked at him with furrowed eyebrows.

“A Caspar?”

“Yeah, like an another person with the name Caspar. I wonder if I will be the first one she’s met with that name” he said. I examined him and looked for signs that he was only joking, but found none.

After that the conversation died. Everyone ate quietly, minding their own business. I couldn’t help but think about what I heard yesterday. I couldn’t help but wonder what it meant. Who’s Nicholas? The name had been burning itself a hole in my head.

Not many minutes later, in came Tyler. He didn’t stop, though. Just walked straight forward, without looking at any of us and into the living room. I looked after him with a sad expression. He was defiantly hiding something from us. I wasn’t exactly sad about him hiding something from me. It was more the fact that I was disappointed that he didn’t trust me enough to tell me. I wanted him to be able to tell me when something was up. I wanted to help him.

I’d had enough. I stood up, straightened my back and walked into the living room where Tyler was sitting. He had his knees tucked underneath him as he sat on the sofa. His fingers were typing quickly on his phone. He didn’t notice I was there until I sat down and he turned to look at me.

His expression was blank. His eyes didn’t give away anything, like mine would have. I took a deep breath and looked him straight in his eyes.

“You know you can tell me anything, right?”

He looked kind of odd after I said that. Like he hadn’t expected me to say that. He quickly changed his expression and smiled. He smiled, but not with his eyes. I could tell because I’ve spent years looking at his smile and adored it. This wasn’t that smile.

“Of course, Troye. I know that” he said, laying his hand on my shoulder.

I sighed and looked at his hand on my shoulder for a second, before turning my head to look at him again.

“Then why aren’t you telling me what’s going on? And don’t give me that bullshit and say that ‘it’s nothing’, because I know something is up and we both know that I know!” I warned him.

He sighed and looked away from me. I wrinkled my nose and looked down on my hands. Maybe I had been a little too harsh on him. I shouldn’t have screamed at him. He didn’t deserve that.

I didn’t look up from my hands. I didn’t dare to. I was afraid he was going to shout at me too. I wouldn’t survive that. Tyler yelling at me. Tyler being mad at me. I couldn’t even stand the thought of it.

Then I heard some shifting and I knew Tyler was going to leave the sofa. I looked up in time to see him looking at me with a sad expression. He got up and walked away. Then he stopped. Then he turned around and opened his mouth.

“I’m sorry, Troye. I’m trying to fix this, but they won’t let me. There’s nothing I can do” he paused and took a step towards me “there’s nothing else to do then to just let it happen and hope for the best. I wish this didn’t happen right now, but it did, and I am so sorry” he stopped and took another step towards me “this must be really confusing for you, I know. But you gotta know this is not something that I want. Don’t let him get to you, Troye. Promise me that. Don’t believe any of his words”.
