Morgan

The talk DeVanté and I had at the party really stirred up some memories and had me thinking. I now realized how badly I actually missed him. Just simply having a conversation with him sparked up my feelings that I had made myself believe I didn't still have. Before, DeVanté and I had amazing chemistry. Talking to him let me know that the chemistry was definitely still there.

"You remember Tevin?" Bria asked me, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I looked at her to see she was cheesing. "How could I forget him?" I asked sarcastically.

"Y'all cute," she nudged me.

Bria, who are you rooting for? Me and Tevin, me and DeVanté, or me and that Static guy? Make up your mind. 🙄

"You said the same thing about me and that boy from the party, Bri, and I barely said anything to him."

"Okay I was playing when I said you and Static cute, but you and Tevin cute for real for real," she said.

Before Bria and I came to stay with Tionne, I would be blushing at her statement. But at this moment, I was not worried about Tevin. DeVanté was all I could think of.

I glanced at the nightstand to see a piece of paper with DeVanté's number written on it, he had given it to me at the party.

"Get out of my room for a second, Bri," I said.

She looked at me. "Uh, you can ask nicely."

I sighed. "Please? I need to make a private call," I said, putting emphasis on "private."

She got up from the bed. "I was about to go to the living room anyway," she said while mugging me as she walked out. She actually had the manners to close the door behind her instead of leaving it wide open like she usually does.

I stared down at the piece of paper. I had been contemplating on whether or not I should call DeVanté and at this moment, I had decided I should. I picked up the phone and hesitated before dialing his number. My palms began to sweat as the phone rang.

I was about to hang up before I heard his deep voice. "Hello?"

"H-Hey, DeVanté. It's Morgan."

I heard shuffling before he spoke. "What's up?" he asked.

I bit down on my lip, trying to figure out what to say. "Um, if you're not busy, is it okay for me to come over?"

"Oh, I ain't busy," he said. "It's always okay for you to come over, you should know that."

A smile formed on my face at his words. "Okay, I'm on my way now."

"Alright, cool." I heard a manly cough in the background. "Nigga," DeVanté said to them before hanging up the phone.

I thought about what I was about to do. No matter how many times I told myself I wouldn't go down that road with him again, deep down I wanted to. DeVanté is a hand full and it takes a lot of effort to put up with him, but I missed our relationship and I wanted it back.

I got up from the bed and started opening the door when I heard quick stomping. I looked into the hallway to see Bria and Tionne nosy asses running down the stairs.

That's why Bria sneaky ass closed my door when she left. 😑

I stale faced them. "Y'all nosy as hell," I said.

They both sat down on the couch and started watching TV, as if they didn't just get caught eavesdropping.

"Ti, since you're using Dalvin's car, can I use yours right quick?" I asked.

"Yeah," she said.

"Thanks."

I went back into my room and analyzed myself in my body length mirror. I had on a pair of blue jean short shorts and a white beater, decent enough. I brushed my curly hair up into a high ponytail and threw on a black pair of Birkenstocks before going downstairs.

"I'll be back later," I said while grabbing the car keys from the key hook.

Tionne looked at me with a goofy smile. "Be safe, cousin. I love you," she said before looking back at the TV.

"Love you too..." I said while eyeing the both of them as I walked out the door.

"Be sure to use protection!" I heard Bria yell after I closed the door behind me. I went back into the house and flipped her off before walking to the car.

Skipping Car Ride

I took a deep breath before knocking on the door. Though this was the millionth time I had been to DeVanté's house, I was nervous as hell. I heard the sound of a dog barking before the door swung open, revealing a shirtless DeVanté. His face lit up once he saw it was me.

"Babyyyy," he grinned with his arms held out for a hug.

Baby? 🤔

I smiled and hugged him. He gave me a light squeeze before letting me go and allowing me to step further into his house. He peeked outside of the door and looked around, before closing the door and locking it. I took notice of the fact that the door had four locks on it. Last time I had checked, it only had two. Deciding not to question it, I looked around the living room, it looked different from the way it was on my last visit.

I felt DeVanté's body press against my back, causing me to tense up. He wrapped his arms around my waist and hugged me from behind with his head in the crook of my neck. "I'm really glad you came," he said, his deep voice sending shivers down my spine.

I didn't say anything, my mind was too distracted by the feeling of him holding me.

The sound of rapid footsteps and panting caused me to freeze, knowing exactly what it was. A big, black pit bull appeared and started barking at me. I jumped and hid behind DeVanté, grabbing onto his arm.

"Back up," he yelled at the dog while shielding me.

The dog growled at me before running off. I still held onto DeVanté, scared it would come back and attack me.

"Don't worry, he was just protecting me," he said. "I won't let him touch you."

I looked up at him as he looked down at me. He gave me a small smile and my fear instantly went away. Though he could get crazy at times, I felt safe in DeVanté's presence. He gave off a vibe that let me know he would protect me from anything, anytime.

He glanced down at my hands that were still holding onto his arm. "Come on," he said while leading me up the stairs to his bedroom.

He flipped on the light switch and turned on the TV before plopping down on the bed. He sat against the headboard with his ankles crossed. Just like I did at the party, I stayed in the doorway. He gave me a stale face. "Come on now, you been in my room before," he said.

I hesitantly walked into his room. He patted the spot next to him on the bed with a boyish smile plastered on his face.
