Crishon.

My shoes squeaked as I followed the older man down the long corridor. I wiped my sweaty palms down my camouflage pants, reminding myself to check the time. I had just gotten settled in New York and was lucky that I was because I wasn't too far away from the hospital where Sinai lied.

Fear consumed me once the call identified me as an emergency contact and let me know that there was a stabbing incident involving my first love. I was sure that the call I was getting had to be from the morgue, but luckily for me, it was only hospital staff.

All in all, I hopped in my car and drove the hour and forty-seven minutes, paying the tolls to get from my city to hers.

I let out a breath I wasn't sure I was holding when I found myself in the doorway of her room and she wasn't as bad as my mind tricked me into believing.

The slash to her cheek caught my attention right away, as it stretched from her tragus to the corner of her mouth. The nurse was cleaning and rebandaging what I knew to be the permanent scar and I pretended not to see. I knew that Sinai would be insecure about it. I instead allowed my eyes to roam the cut marks on the other exposed parts of her body. Her shoulders, arms, and belly and I could only wonder what in the hell could've happened.

I closed my fist and double knocked on the door that I had already stepped through and caught the eyes of the nurse who was finishing up.

"Looks like you have a visitor," she told Sin with a smile, but her face seemed to be stuck in a frown. But when her eyes met mine, although she couldn't move her face, her eyes twinkled with happiness.

"I'll leave you two alone. I'll be back soon with your food, sweetie."

With the nurse being gone, I found myself growing nervous about talking to Sin who I had known my whole life.

"I got your letter." She said, reminding me that I was simply standing in the corner trapped in my thoughts. "I was beginning to think the things that we talked about were figments of my imagination." She continued and I could tell the salty tears rolling down her wounded cheeks were going to be painful. "I was beginning to think that you had changed your mind about us. I was beginning to think that everything I was doing was for nothing." She finished, mumbling the last sentence as if it were more than just us in the room."

"You're doubting me now? Have I ever lied to you?" I asked and watched her shake her head and cry silently. "What happened, babe?" I pulled a burgundy cushioned chair by her bedside and sat, pulling her hand into mine. "What happened?"

"I'm so fucked up, but she was going to ruin everything for us." She whispered.

"Who was going to ruin anything? No one can ruin us. I told you that before."

"She was going to have your baby." She continued to whisper through tears, grateful to finally be getting it out. "I couldn't let her. I couldn't let her have a tie to us and our family for the rest of her life. Our lives. I couldn't." She sobbed. "I'm so evil."

"Shh." I forced, noticing that her cries and her words were beginning to raise a few notches. "What did you do Sin? Where's Melissa?"

My nose nearly touched hers as she confessed her sins to me, from her lips directly to mine so that only the two of us heard. I wasn't expecting to hear that Sinai had doped up her girlfriend with Vitamin C just for her to miscarry and not be the mother to my child.

I wasn't keen on Melissa being pregnant, especially knowing she had done it purposely. But I wasn't evil enough to wish death on my seed, and especially not at the hand of the woman I was in love with.
