Megan.
Levi had gotten everyone out of the house easier than I had thought he would, and although it was just us; Levi, Me, Trey and the kids, I still kept my eyes focused only on the shiny hardwood floor.
"So what's really happening? You leaving me?" Levi questioned for assurance and I looked over at Trey who stood leaning against a wall. His face showed no emotion which made me wonder myself if that was what I was doing.
"I'm married." I said aloud after clearing my throat, even though I was certain that was apparent.
"Yeah, I got that. But that doesn't really explain to me what we're doing here." He said pointing between us. "You were married last night when we were getting everything situated to move in. And you were married the other day when you were sitting on my d-" he continued and I pushed him backwards slightly.
"My kids!" I said through clenched teeth as I looked back at them. They were in the living room engrossed in their phones and tablets, but Trey clenched and unclenched his jaw repeatedly and I sighed knowing he was listening.
"So my question is, are you going to begin the divorce process and sign the papers or are you leaving me?"
I couldn't fix my lips to answer him, so I didn't. I just stared at him.
His laughter caught me off guard. "So, what was the point of this?"
"Levi, you have every right to be mad. And I'm so sorry. I really am. You and I had a growing bond that was beautiful, but." I began, wondering what I was trying to say. "But I'm married." I mumbled. "And I don't want to be divorced, so it's time for me to respect the vows that I took before God." I mumbled.
"Respect the vows? Those vows are tarnished, you realize that right? He moved my best friend's ex into his house. Into his bed that you two used to share and you're talking about respecting vows? The shit we did in no way shape or form respects your vows-"
"For better or worse." I whispered to him, hoping to shush his rant. "He hurt me and I hurt him, but we're still married and if we're going to stay married we have to start somewhere."
"So I just get the short fucking end of the stick. I moved out of my house to move into this one that we were supposed to share. But the house is in your name and the loan that was taken out is in your name. So you're just content with me being shit out of luck?" He asked making me feel horrible.
I glanced back toward Trey for some sort of help, but he paid my pleading eyes no mind. I knew this was my battle, but Levi wasn't making it easy.
"I really should've known." He chuckled and nodded his head in understanding. "That's why you've been spending so much time there and that's why you don't get wet for me. Because you're fucking him?" He asked and my eyes widened as I replayed his words, but from a different source.
I backed up slightly to give myself a head start just in case this conversation would end like it did when I had it with Alonzo.
"So you're just walking away?" He asked, retracing my steps with his own and I could feel my body grow warm with every step he took toward me.
I didn't want to seem weak, so I took a few deep breaths and tried to slow down my heart rate. "I still have my apartment. My best friend has been staying in it, but she can stay here with me and you can takeover the lease there. I can ship you all the furniture that you bought for here."
"Whatever." he said with an eye roll, not putting up much of a fight. "Wasn't worth it anyway." I heard him mumble as he left out of the house.
Silence invaded the space around us as I turned my body to face Tremaine who was still leaning against the wall.
