My favorite time of year was rapidly approaching. Thanksgiving! Which also meant that my due date was around the corner. December first to be exact and I was excited that I could begin my maternity leave from work during thanksgiving break. I needed it, but I would miss my babies until the new year began and I was back at work.
My student had really become a second family to me and I was sure that some of them would miss me just as much.
I couldn't help but shed a few tears once class was dismissed. I hated how emotional I was with this pregnancy. I was the farthest thing from a cry baby, yet I found myself crying over the stupidest shit. My best friend always laughed at me because she was the same way with her son.
As I trotted slowly, step by step, back to my classroom I noticed that a few of the teachers I had grown closest to were inside with cake, balloons and gift bags. Of course, the water works came quickly.
"Oh my God!" I squealed. "You guys are so sweet."
"How could we let you leave without a party?" Mrs. Simmons asked rhetorically as she placed the large sheet cake on my students' desks that they had formed as one.
I glanced around the room at the "Congratulations." and "Special Delivery" balloons that decorated my classroom and smiled widely at the four people who stood before me. It was nice to have people care about you enough to do something like this.
I continued to glance around the room only to make eye contact with none other than Mr. Elijah Walker himself. I had been doing a really good job avoiding him the past few weeks since he had his face between my legs. I couldn't bear being around him and risking doing any more damage than I already had, but with this being a party for me from my co-workers, him included, I had to face him.
His eyes scanned my entire frame and there was that tinging in the pit of my stomach that I couldn't avoid when I was near him. The feeling that was supposed to only be felt by my husband's presence. I swiped a piece of hair behind my ear and mingled with everyone but him, stuffing my face with chinese food and cake simultaneously like that fat ass pregnant woman I was.
I was pretty afraid when time winded down and one by one everyone began to leave after straightening up. I wasn't surprised at all to see Elijah was the last person lingering behind, but I did feel trapped.
"Girl, don't let him get to you." I coached myself as I closed up the remainder of the delicious cake that I would surely be taking home with me.
"You've been avoiding me." He said calmly as he sat on the edge of my desk.
"I haven't." I answered vaguely while doing a bit of everything to keep myself from looking up at him.
"I make you nervous?" he asked and I could feel his presence coming closer and closer to me until he was directly behind me.
"Listen." I began, swiftly turning my body to face him. "I am a married woman. I have a wonderful husband, a beautiful family and you are not going to turn me into a woman who takes advantage of that." I told him, but he only chuckled in return.
"Well first, I could never turn you into anything. And second, I know you have a husband. You don't think I love my wife? But you clearly know just like I do that you can love your spouse and still crave someone else." He said sliding his finger across my cheek sending a shiver through my body.
"That isn't right." I mumbled.
"Who said anything about right? I know it's not right, but it's real. Shit, you think that nigga don't be looking at the women he works with every once in a while?"
