Heather's P.O.V in present tense:
The creature has put me on his shoulder and I am doing all I can to hold on as he bounds away through the trees. I close my eyes, fearing that if I fall off I will die, and if I don't fall off I will be eaten for dinner. A tree branch whooshes by inches from my face. I cling to the giant's skin desperately.
After what seems like an age of moving, the creature slows down. Oh no. He's reached his cave and he's going to eat me.
He pads through the darkness, splashing through water, the echo of his footsteps deafening me. Suddenly, there is light. The end of the cave is lit with gigantic candles. The creature, the giant, hums as he opens up the door of a dangling cage and places me in it. My shoes fell off on the journey and the cold metal stings my feet. I shiver.
The giant walks over to another corner of the cave. He starts preparing something. Probably the sides he is going to have while he eats me. Or the batter I will be wrapped in. Or the herbs I will be dropped in...
"Sing," a gruff, thundering voice suddenly breaks my thoughts.
"W...what?" I stutter.
"Sing," the giant says again.
"Uh.... what should I sing?"
"Sing!" the Giant is growing impatient now so I rack my brains and remember a song I had to sing for my singing lessons a while ago.
"A...Ae fond kiss, and then we sever;Ae fareweel, and then forever!Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.Who shall say that Fortune grieves him,While the star of hope she leaves him?Me, nae cheerfu' twinkle lights me;Dark despair around benights me.I'll ne'er blame my partial fancy,Naething could resist my Nancy; But to see her was to love her;Love but her, and love forever.Had we never lov'd sae kindly,Had we never lov'd sae blindly,Never met-or never parted-We had ne'er been broken-hearted. Fare thee weel, thou first and fairest!Fare thee weel, thou best and dearest!Thine be ilka joy and treasure,Peace. enjoyment, love, and pleasure!Ae fond kiss, and then we sever;Ae fareweel, alas, forever!Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee!"
The whole cave is silent. I glance over at the giant, who is looking at me with an expression I can only describe as love. He slowly opens the cage door and puts out his hand, inviting me to step onto it. I do so, feeling oddly calm. Any nerves I had have faded away, as the Giant brings me close to his face. He cradles me close, and I am once again warm from the heat of his body. The thump of his heart is oddly comforting, and he rocks me gently and strokes my hair until I fall asleep.
