I stared after him, debating whether to run after him or not. No, I should give him some space. But why had he got so angry? I had merely stated that I liked the dress. Something was up with Reade, and I needed to find out what.

Suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I spun round to come face to face with the old woman. "Are you alright, dearie?"
"Y... yes..."
The old woman shook her head. "I don't mean to pry but I overheard the conversation between you and your partner. You like this dress, do you?"
I nodded shyly. "Take it," the woman handed it to me.
"Oh... no! I can't do that!" I tried to hand it back but the woman was having none of it.
"Dearie, I want you to have it. If I can make people happy then I have fulfilled my purpose. The dress will look lovely on you."
"I can't take this without taking paying any money..."
"Take it," the woman reassured me. At once I took the woman in my arms and hugged her.
"Thank you, thank you!" I squealed. The woman laughed. As I turned to leave, she said to me- "As for your partner, maybe you should talk to him about it? He may be upset right now but it's always best to talk to someone." I thanked the woman and made my way home

When I opened the door to the cottage, Reade was sat at the table, head in his hands, Toregoth and Skamrak comforting him. Thragream came over to me and hugged me.

"Reade should not have let you walk home alone," he told me. "But that dress is beautiful! Good choice!" Reade looked up at me then.
"Try it on!" Hadak called. "Let's see you in it!"
I went into a different room. When I got back all the Dwarfs cooed. "Wow, you are so beautiful! How gorgeous!"
Reade looked at me with a coldness in his eye. "I told you not to buy the dress," he mumbled, just loud enough for me to hear. Gabath sat me down and started doing my hair into a plait.

When he had done Skamrak poked Reade in the back. "Don't you have something to say?"
Reade walked over to me. "Sorry," he mumbled in a tiny voice.
"Louder," Skamrak scolded.
"Sorry."
"Good. For what?"
"For making Heather walk home alone."
"Say it to Heather."
"Sorry for making you walk home alone."
"And?"
"And for telling you you couldn't buy the dress."
"Even when?"
"Even when you were told you could buy one."

"What does the Princess look like in her dress?"
"You look nice."
"Nice?"
"You look beautiful," Reade said, red faced.

Reade looked so much like a child who had to apologise for stomping on another's toys that I couldn't help but laugh. "Apology accepted," I smiled.
Then, the dwarfs and I sung and danced together till moonlight, Reade sat in the corner not looking at me once the whole time.
