As we walked down the steps into the dungeon, I could hear the maniacal shouts of the prisoners. I tried to pull back a few times but the guard was strong. The Prison Guard walked in front of us holding a lantern and a set of keys.
When the light passed other cells for a split second, I could see the bruised faces of different men, some smiling, some glaring at me with cold eyes. One of the men wolf-whistled at me and howled in pain as he was beaten by another Prison Guard.
We arrived at an empty cell. My leg was chained to the corner of the cell. I was stripped of my shoes and my bracelet I had on. "Please, don't leave me in here," I begged the Guard. The guard said nothing and left.
I sat in silence, listening to the soft humming of one of the prisoners. Another was singing a song about a long lost bride, who disappeared at moonlight. He sung the song over and over again, until it no longer caused me any interest, and I tried to get some sleep, but the floor was too uncomfortable to get to sleep on.
Slowly, day turned to night, and the guards left to guard from the outside. As soon as they had locked the door, a creepy voice called out. "What have we here, then?" "Why's this darling in here?" said another voice. Soon, the whole of the prison inmates were calling things out about how pretty I was, how I should come closer to them, sing to them. A hand shot out from the cell next to me and clawed at my dress. "Get off me!" I screamed and kicked frantically. "Get off! Please! Leave me alone!" The men only called out louder, taunting me, and I covered my ears to try and drown out the noise. "STOP!" a new voice called out suddenly, louder than the rest, silencing the inmates. "Leave the lady alone."
I sat up. In the cell opposite me there stood a very handsome man. He had a few scratches on his face and wore a tattered sailor's uniform. He must have been a ladies' man before he came in here. "Th.... thank you," I mumbled. The sailor nodded. "No problem. Don't let them get to you," he said. "Most of them have gone crazy, being in here so long." "You haven't," I said. "No, but I know how to handle myself. I know I'll get out of here someday." The way he said that made me believe him. "You will too," he added, seeing my face. I knew I would, as my father wasn't that cruel. Was he?
"Why are you in here?" I managed to ask. "Accused of cheating," he said. "I had a wife and two children, but I hardly got to see them because I was away at sea for too long at a time. My wife got jealous and thought she could get revenge by framing me for cheating." "That's awful." "Yes, well, what's done is done. I can only hope I get to see my children again." I nodded. That's what I would wish if I were in his shoes. "What about you?" he asked suddenly. Every head in the dungeon turned to me. "Uh... well..." I began, but then stopped myself. Who would believe that I had been snatched by a giant, and I came back home alive to tell the tale? "You don't have tell, if you aren't comfortable," said the sailor reassuringly. There were murmurs of disagreement from the other men. Of course they would want to hear it. A new face, especially the face of a young girl, definitely excited them.
"It's alright," I smiled. "Well... it began when..."
