"Heather... Heather?" Several voices calling my name caused both me and the Giant to glance towards the entrance of the cave. Reade and the heads of the five Dwarfs came into view. "Guys!" I called down, elated to see them. To my surprise, the Giant did not get angry. "Princess," he said to me. "Meet-" he picked up Skamrak and placed him next to me "-Small Man." "Small Man? Well, I know I'm shorter than everyone else, but I much prefer Skamrak, thank you very much!" The dwarf looked so cute with his hands on his hips, a mildly stern expression on his face. "Skamrak!" I ran to him and scooped him up in a hug. "You know Small Man?" the Giant asked me. I nodded. "Yeah, he, along with the others, looked after me, before I came back here." "The others are down here by the way!" A voice called up from the ground. I peered over the table and saw Reade and the other four Dwarves. "We've been climbing that blasted mountain all day to get to this cave, I think we deserve some hospitality too!" "No!" the Giant said to them. "Me, Princess and Small Man all live together here. You are not invited!" He moved towards them. "Giant...." I warned him, my voice sharp. "Be nice." "Oh, OK. Me, Princess, Small Man and Other Small Men all live together here!" He picked the other Dwarfs up and placed them on the table with me and Skamrak. "What about me?" Reade shouted. "You not invited!" "Giant..." I said again. "Princess..." the Giant attempted to match my tone. "Bring Reade up, please. Please..." I pulled the saddest face I could. The Giant pondered for a few seconds before adding Reade to the group of us on the table. "Only to make you happy, Princess!" I hugged everyone again in turn, exchanging greetings and asking how they had been. "I missed you all!" I said to them. "We missed you too, Heather!" the Dwarfs all chorused. I turned to Reade. "How have you been?" I asked him. "I... I haven't been too well off. I couldn't stop thinking about you." "Oh, Reade..." I embraced him, resting my head on his shoulder. We attempted to ignore the Giant, who was coughing loudly, obviously trying to get our attention. Eventually, the Giant became impatient and drew us apart with his fingers. "Can I get a hug, Princess?" he asked. "You've already had enough!" I laughed. The Giant sulked off to another area of a cave, and Toregoth beckoned us all to come near him.
"We can't stay here forever, you know," he said. "Heather's been here long enough!" Hadak chipped in. "But how are we going to escape?" Gabuth asked. "The Giant has no problem letting us go, but he won't give Heather up so easily." "I'll talk to him," I said. "He won't agree at first, but if I can get him to return stolen books to the market, I can convince him to let us go. Giant!" He came out from the shadows. "We need to talk." ******************************************************************************************
"No!" the Giant was bawling his eyes out. "No, Princess! I won't let you go!" "Giant-" "No! You can't do this to me! I won't lose you again! I can't! No... no... no!" His voice made the ground beneath us shake and a few rocks at the entrance of the cave fall. We had all been knocked over from the force of his voice. "Blimey!" Hadak said, hands still over his ears. "Poor little Giant has had a massive tantrum!" "H- Heather..." the Giant placed his shaking hands out for me. "P-please. I need to talk to you. Without them." After some hesitation, I agreed. "Don't forget to bring Heather back though!" Reade called as the Giant lifted me and took me to a darker part of the cave.
"Oh, Giant," I sighed, resting my head on his shoulder. "Princess," the Giant replied, giving me a kiss. There was a bit of a silence, but then the Giant broke it. "I... I've been thinking. Maybe I... maybe I..." he began choking on his own words. Reassuringly, I put my hand on the Giant's neck. "Go on..." I gently encouraged him to carry on. "I... I'll miss you."
My eyes widened in shock. "What?" Perhaps I truly had gone deaf from the Giant's roar. "I'll miss you. I decided that I should do what makes you happy. I'll let you go." Big drops of his tears plopped down on the ground, creating pools of water. "Really?" "Yes." I hugged him then. I clasped his neck as hard as I could, and placed his hands around me. "Thank you, Giant. Thank you!" "B... but... please stay for tonight. Please." "Of course I will, Giant. Of course!" When I got back to join the others there was no need for explaining, because they had already heard the Giant's side of the conversation as his voice was so loud. They all praised the Giant, and he smiled slightly. "Soup?" he asked suddenly. "Princess taught me how to make it!" **************************************************************************************************************************************************************** *Chester's POV* The men and I had got up early in the morning, packed up all our supplies, saddled our horses and set off. We had ridden all day, and when the stars were out and up in the sky we reached the top of the mountain. The stars were beautiful. Just like Heather. Well, I wouldn't have to wait much longer; I was seeing her soon. We dismounted our horses and entered the cave...
