I waited anxiously for the Giant's return. Maybe he wouldn't return, maybe he would be recaptured and killed by friends and family of the men killed. Maybe I would be stuck in this cage forever, left to die a slow and painful death, my body slowly rotting away until found many years later by an unexpecting explorer. My bones would be put on display, and people would pay money to see "the bones of the disgraced princess kidnapped by a giant and left to rot". I put my head in my knees and waited. ************************************************************************************************************************************************************** *Reade's POV in present tense* I am left calling Heather's name in the darkness. The bodies of dead men surround me, and I wonder how long it will take until the King's Guards come along and there is a massive hunt for the giant. I walk back to the Dwarf's cottage, hand on the bridge of my nose. All I can hope is that the giant treats Heather nicely. He let her go before, so maybe he will do it again.
I open the door of the cottage to see the dwarfs sitting up in their beds, disscussing something. Skamrak turns to me. "There you are! Where's Heather?"
"She... she's gone..." "What?" The dwarfs stand up. "Where?"
"T... the giant took her!" Hadak walks towards me. "Well why are you still here complaining to us? Go after her!" "I don't know where he took her!" "Well make it your mission to discover it! If you truly love her, you would be out right now searching for her, and not giving up until you find her!" Gabuth says. There is a loud booming voice outside. "Reade! Reade!" it calls. "Well, there's your first clue," Thrargeam says, and we all run outside.
The Giant stands in front of me. When he sees me, he bends down and picks me up. "I must make the Princess happy!" he shouts and he runs away with me in his hand. **************************************************************************************************************************************************************** *Heather's POV in Present Tense* I'm still rocking with my head in my knees when the giant gallops through the entrance of the cave. He places Reade down on the table below me. "Are you happy now?" the Giant asks. "Reade!" I call down and Reade looks up. "Heather!" he runs forwards. "Take me up to her!" he tells the Giant. The Giant scoops Reade up and places him in the cage with me. We run into eachother's arms at once. "I'm so glad you're safe!" he whispers into my ear. The giant coughs. "Are you happy now, Princess?" he repeats. "Um... happier..." I say. "What do you want? I'll give you anything!" I smile at him sadly. He's trying hard, really trying. "Take me and Reade home." "I brought you boy! Does it not make you happy?" "It does! But it would make me happier if you took us home." The giant is angry again. "NOTHING I DO IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU! I BRING YOU BOY, I MAKE YOU FOOD! YOU STILL NOT LOVE ME! YOU STILL NOT STAY WITH ME!" Reade stands in front of me. "Don't get angry at her! She can't live in these conditions! She needs a proper home." The giant roars. "YOU! BOY! YOU DID THIS TO PRINCESS! YOU MADE HER NOT LOVE ME!" With that, he picks Reade up of of the cage and takes him out of the cave again. "No! Please! Don't hurt him! Please!" I sob. I hear Reade shouting outside. "No!" I scream again and again. The shouting outside stops. Whether it worked or whether it's too late, I don't know.
