The Calm Before the Storm

(Dayu's POV)

Captain Wang and I separated when the sun showed in the sky. We smiled at each other.

"I will be ready to leave at any time. Just give me the signal and we can start travelling," he told me.

I nodded, "I will just tie some loose ends on my part. Say my goodbye to the person who had helped me, the one who looked after me, the one who held all those evidences,"

No need to tell him that those three persons are different people. The less he knew about my associates, the more I can protect Mei and Uncle Shu.

I am leaving them. But I am not giving them away.

I hope one day, Uncle, Mei and I can tell Captain Wang everything and he will forgive all of us for deceiving him.

But for now, the promise of us leaving and travelling, with just us, will have to be enough.

I plan to spent that time alone with him to strengthen our love more and to be more connected with him in every way.

We kissed goodbye. With a promise that I will send words to him if I have finished preparing so we can leave.

He will not take me back to my hiding place. He doesn't need to know all my secrets anymore.

"I am content that in the end, you chose me Dayu. That will be enough for me now. I learned the hard way that some truth hurts, like in the case of my father..."

I hugged him tight after that confession. He held me as tight. "As long as I get to leave here with you, you can keep things into your heart for now. I will show you that you can trust me, then maybe later, you will tell me everything. I hope..."

I nodded. I do hope for the same thing. That I will trust him fully. And he will trust me fully. That we will trust each other completely and we will not keep any more secrets from each other.

He left first. Going back into the direction of the base. I spent a few minutes alone on that lake before I walked back to granny's home.

There I saw Mei waiting for me in the underground. He got up from his sit on the bed.

"Are you together with Captain Wang? He was not in the base when I woke up early," he asked in concerned tone.

I nodded. "And you guys didn't fight again, right?" Mei's face showed how much he dislikes the thought of me and his Captain fighting each other.

My cousin may deny it but he is loyal to Captain Wang too.

I shook my head, "I'm fine now but I have no plan to seek another match against a defense specialist this soon. He asked me to run away with him," I said shyly to my cousin.

Mei's eyes rounded. "And? What is your answer when he asked that?"

I flushed some more, "I said yes Mei," I replied in a whispery tone.

Mei gasped and then grab to hug me. He lean out to smile at me. "Dayu, I am so happy!" he said with mist in his eyes.

"Mei...but you and Uncle..."

He shook his head, "Don't worry about us. We are still hidden. You should leave with Captain Wang. Uncle and I will try to kill those generals on our own..."
