(Qing's POV)

I walked to go back into my cabin after patrolling. After the fiasco last night where a helper and twenty one soldiers died including Jiang's second in command, higher ups are clamoring for the Captains to tighten the patrolling around the base.

But Jiang and I knew the truth, Jiang and Mei killed those soldiers to save my lover. With that act, I am forever in debted to them.

As I pass I saw the soldier I assigned to look out for my cabin and to make a ruckus if ever any suspicious person came close to it.

Dayu is inside that cabin. I instructed him to come to me before I went out to patrol with my troops. I asked him to stay inside the cabin and to lock the door so he can be safe inside

"Did any untoward thing happened?" I ask the soldier I stationed not far from the cabin.

"Nothing Sir. Your helper stayed inside the cabin the whole time," he said.

"Good, you are dismissed." The soldier nodded at me and left.

I walked to the cabin door and enter the room. Dayu was in front of the armoire folding and arranging my clothes inside.

"Hello, how was it?" he smiled and walked to me. I opened my arms, Dayu leaned on me.

"It's all better now that you are in my arms," I said and smile when I heard happy sounds from him.

I don't know how Dayu could still be happy and calm after the nightmare he endured last night.

Being chased by those soldiers intent to kill him. That should make him scared and wary, but Dayu kept on smiling.

He told me the reason when we were in bed together after making love.

His unclothed body against mine, his head lying against my shoulder, our hands intertwined on top of my chest.

"If I stay scared, you will only get angrier. I don't want to cause conflict between you and your father. We are not even sure if he was the one who ordered those soldiers..."

I sighed and hug him tighter. How can someone this pure hearted survived this long? Dayu is sweet, naive and innocent to the evil thinking of some people.

He is making me want to protect him more.

He disentangled our hands to smooth his on my hair, "I love you Captain," he sighed.

I smiled down at him, "I love you too. I will make sure that nothing bad will happen to you,"

"I know, and I trust you that's why you don't have to be angry anymore. You are scaring your soldiers," Dayu giggled.

Ah yes, my face had a constant frown all day. My soldiers looked wary and subdued as they followed my orders to the letter.

I look sideways at Dayu again and I smiled when I saw him sleeping already. His eyes closed, his mouth slightly open. I held him securely in my arms.

I will protect this naive, sweet person so he won't lose that happy demeanor. I want to hear his laughter everyday knowing I am the reason of his happiness.

I close my eyes to rest.

Just to open it again when a loud knock sounded from the door.

I gently disentangled myself to Dayu who is still fast asleep. I lay him down gently and get up to open the door, not bothering to put on some clothes.
