After Rain

Chapter 11

If there was one word to describe Silas room, it would be neat. His bed was always made, with zero creases on the sheet, his floor was always clean and rarely his clothes or other stuff sat in a misplaced position. His things were extremely well organized in his shelves, most of them were books and magazines. He loved reading magazines.

''Do you want to be a writer?'' I asked him when we were printing our assignment in his room. We were done with it and it was probably the last time I would visit his room for work. He was connecting his laptop with his printer when he spared me a glance,

''Writer and him? What a joke.'' Said Joshua, who was sat on the floor beside his brother, playing with a rubric cube.

Silas gave him a stink eye, ''At this moment, you are the joke. Freeloader.'' He muttered the last word under his breath but both of us heard it right.

''Its not my fault that mom decided to move here in the middle of the year.'' Joshua grumbled. Apparently he was working at a cafe nearby as a barrista but he wanted to study for his honors at the moment. The only problem was that the admission period was over when they came and he had to wait for a while until he could apply.

''You should be a writer Nicola, you write extremely well. Maybe you can work in journalism?'' Journalism suddenly reminded me of Aislyn,

''Come to think of it, why don't you apply at Callahan? I know someone whose studying there, maybe you can apply for a short course?''

''Hmm, sounds interesting actually. Maybe I should meet them. Maybe grandpa's old students would be there?'' Joshua mused and Silas kicked him all of the sudden,

''What the hell!?''

''Can you go out please? Can't you see we're working right now?''

Joshua glared at him but didn't budge, ''So rude...am I your brother or what?''

Silas didn't hit him anymore and Joshua resumed playing with his cube. After a while when he still couldn't print the document I stood up from his chair and peeked down at the wire,

''What's wrong?''

Silas gave an exasperated sigh, ''Its not working, that's whats wrong. Grisha probably did something again!''

''Stop blaming others jeez! Let me check.'' Joshua crawled towards the printer and disconnected it from the laptop. He began to check it while Silas stared in frustration. After looking for another minute, Joshua angled the printer away from him,

''Seems like there is a page stuck inside, I need to open it. Why don't you go and print from Dad's room?'' Silas looked annoyed as he stood up, balancing the laptop in his hand,

''I'll be back.'' He told me and left the room. It was only after he left that the awkwardness settled between me and Joshua. I rubbed my hands in silence and he paid me no heed.

''Are you two dating?''

''What?!'' I sprang up from the bed as if my feet were on fire. My cheeks heated and he gave me a smug look,

''You and Silas...are you guys like together, together?''

''What? No! Of course not! We're just classmates and -''

''Weird'' It was the only word he said and I frowned. He didn't explain and went back to resolving the cube, I opened my mouth and closed it several times to ask what was weird about it exactly. But he spoke on his own after a moment,
