It was the unfortunate and mournful day of the funeral. What was a bright day turned into darkness. There weren't a lot who attended the funeral. The ones who showed up were Grady, Helen, Julia, Thomason, Henry, Isabelle, David and Annie. Thomason still couldn't comprehend the idea that Joe wasn't there anymore and that he's gone.
"Mr.Henry and Mrs.Isabelle, I am terribly sorry for your lost. John's death is an enormous lost for all of us. If you need anything we're here to help,"said Annie trying to comfort Isabelle and Henry.
"Yes, don't hesitate to ask us. The entire kingdom is at your service,"said David.
"Thank you your majesties. This is a really generous offer," replied Henry.
Before leaving, David and Annie comforted Thomason too. Julia didn't leave with her parents but stayed to help Thomason through this miserable time. Helen and Grady decided to stay too. David ordered James to stay so he could return them back to their homes.
"Thomason, you're going to get through this. You're a forceful guy. I know this is a tough situation but we are here to help you,"said Julia holding his arm.
"Yes Thomason, we are here to help you because that's what friends are for,"replied Helen agreeing with Julia.
"That's right pal. If you need a shoulder to cry on, I am here for you,"said Grady.
"Thank you guys, that's thoughtful of you but I would like some time alone."
"Okay, we'll wait for you in the car,"said Julia and then they went to the car.
Isabelle, who was still there, gave Thomason a letter and said,"the day before my son died, he had a dream that his death was near. He woke up and gave both Henry and I a kiss then said few words about how much he loved us. I got worried and asked him about why he did that and what was happening. He replied that he felt his end was near and that he didn't want to leave this Earth before telling us that he loved us. He then went to his room, wrote this letter and asked me to hand it to you if he dies. At first I rejected and told him it was just a nightmare. But he kept begging me and I gave up to his request. Now, I wish I listened and spent more time with him."
Isabelle started to sob even more. Henry took her to the car and drove back to their house. Thomason was left alone with the letter. The letter contained heart touching and heart warming words which were as following,
"Dearest Thomason,
Kiddo, if you received this letter it means I am in a better place. I know I have troubled you a bit but that what friends do; make their friends life both hell and heaven. I will never forget the first time I met you. Do you remember the kid with nice shirt? So farewell my friend. Take good care of yourself and Julia.P.S I will be waiting for you."
This made Thomason have a major throwback to when they met. It was a bright sunny day at the park when Thomason was five. At that time his father wasn't cruel nor abusive. He become harsh after the death of his wife.
Thomason was sitting on a swing when a brunette boy approached him and said, "I like your shirt."
"My mom bought it for me. I like your shoes,"replied young Thomason.
"My dad bought it for me so I could run fast, look."
Little John ran as fast as he could around the playground.
"I can run faster,"said Thomason as he too ran around the playground.
"No, I can run faster than you can."
"No you can't ."
"Yes I can!"
"No you can't "
"Yes I can!"
"Then let's race to the sandbox."
Both of the little boys ran as fast as their little feet can run. Both reached on the same time.
"Ok. We both can be fast,"said John.
"But no one is faster than us. We are fastest of the fastest,"stated Thomason.
"What is your name?"asked John.
"My name is Thomason. What is yours?"
"My name is John."
The boys began to build on the sand. Thomason built a sand castle while John built a sandman.
"I want to become a king when I grow up. I am going to have a big castle, lots of guards and all the toys that I want,"said Thomason,"what did you build?"
"This is a sandman. He is the brother of snowman."
The two were playing when they heard a soothing sound calling,"Thomason, love, it's time to leave."
It was his mother.
"Bye John."
"Bye Thomason."
Thomason ran to his mother's warm arms. They were filled with so much compassion and love. Thomason also remembered her beautiful smile that would light the entire world. But that was the last time he felt such love and warmth. The next day Thomason went to wake his mother up.
"Mommy! Mommy,"rejoiced Thomason,"Mom. Mom? Dad, mom is not waking up."
Sara was immediately taken to the hospital. She died of natural causes. This angered the father. Thomason didn't understand what was going on.
"Dad? What happened to mom?" inquired Thomason.
"She is gone! Gone forever. She is never returning back,"said the father with anger.
"What do you mean she is gone, dad?"
"What do you think I mean? Are you dumb or deaf? She is gone and never ever going to return,"said Rae and then slapped Thomason.
Thomason cried like never before. But, unfortunately that was just the beginning of an enormous misfortune. A misfortune involving lots of drinking and beatings. Thomason met John again at school and they became great friends. John was the only one who knew Thomason misery and tried to help him as he could.
Thomason stopped and came back to the sore reality. The reality where his childhood friend was dead. He took the letter and went to the car. Julia was concerned but she didn't want to ask him as she knew that would make Thomason even sadder. James drove off to the house.
