Saturday, 6th of June,1957
It was the graduation day. Six months have passed since the death of John and Rae. Thomason had recovered and was doing superb. Helen, Grady, David and Annie were there to support Julia and Thomason and to watch the ceremony. All the students were in black graduation robe and hats.
The principal gave a speech and then one by one the students were called to receive their graduation certificate and deliver a brief speech. Julia's name was announced. She went to take her certificate with excitement. She delivered her speech and returned back to her seat. Then Thomason went to the stage.
"I am so glad to be able stand here. But there is someone who isn't present today. Somebody dear to me. And that person is John. Little Johnny boy was a loyal friend of mine. Unfortunately, he isn't present to see this wonderful day. This certificate is for him. I will make him proud."
Thomason went back his seat beside Julia.
"Julia, or should I say birthday girl,"said Thomason.
Julia was surprised.
"You remembered!"
"Of course. Happy birthday to the most beautiful girl in the entire world,"said Thomason and then kissed Julia's forehead.
"I am going to give you your present later tonight."
Julia and Thomason went to where Julia's parents and Helen and Grady were sitting.
"Happy birthday Julia!"said Helen as she wrapped her arms around Julia, "I hope you live till you're a hundred years old. I am going to give you the present later tonight."
"Me too Julia. Happy birthday,"said Grady.
Julia was happy but confused too. She wondered why are they going to give her the presents later on but she stopped herself as it seemed greedy.
"Julia, my little girl is all grown up,"said Annie as she grabbed Julia's cheeks,"why are you growing up so fast? Happy birthday honey."
"Happy birthday sweety. There is one more person who wants to wish you a happy birthday and congratulate you,"said David.
"Ms.Mary!"yelled Julia as she saw Mary standing next to James. Julia ran to Mary and gave her the tightest hug.
"Julia, nice to see you after a long time. Happy birthday. How old are you turning? Thirtenn, fourteen?"teased Mary.
"I am turning seventeen."
"Seventeen! Oh Lord. Did you drink some secret growth potion while I was gone? So you're now a high school graduate. I saw you grow in front of my eyes. Happy birthday dear and congratulations."
Mary kissed both Julia's cheeks. While Julia was gone, the others congratulated Thomason. They also discussed about the surprise party they were going to throw for Julia. Julia,along with Mary went back to them.
"Julia, would you like to go with me around the city? I am going to show you beautiful parts of it,"said Thomason.
"Yes, I would like to."
