The Return

The light rose upon the realm eternal, showering the ancient buildings in a florescent golden glow. The waves of the bay glided smoothly across the glistening water, ending with a loud crash as they foamed against the jagged rocks. The normally ferocious crimson slayer stood by the immaculately kept bay wall, her hand pressed firmly against it's cool stone. Her eyes were closed as she took small soothing breathes. The Queen had perished, the only mother figure the warrior had had. Now the king was missing, presumed deceased. Anger ran deep in her veins, the betrayal of one their own, yet again. Thor had grieved heavily over the loss of his brother, only to find him alive and well. Sif's knuckles cracked as she curled her fists into balls at the thought of his heartless act. Just for control and power, it was vile.

"Lady Sif?" Small footsteps echoed behind her and came to an abrupt halt. Slowly the female warrior turned, her scarlet heels scratching against the flagstone as she did so.

"May I ask why thou art disturbing me at this time?" Her dark eyes bore into the young guard's, her brows creased into a frightening frown.

"Thy presence is requested in the throne room, there has been...an incident." He spoke quietly, slight fear rung in his voice. Lady Sif narrowed her eyes in thought, she hoped Thor had disposed of Loki for good, however she knew how unlikely that was. With a bereaved sigh she dragged her nimble form into the grand palace and made haste for the throne room.

The warrior maiden strode into the large, ornate room some time later. Ahead of her stood the warriors three, eagerly awaiting her arrival, on the floor by their feet lay a body; a mummified body. She drew her eyes away from it as she got closer, she would ask about that later.

"My friends, pray tell what is so urgent?" She halted just before them, eyeing each of their grim faces, pale and fearful. Something stirred within her, her warrior instincts were telling her something was most definitely amiss.

"Fandral?" She turned to the normally most talkative of the trio but even he seemed to be stuck in silent mode. Volstagg cleared his throat and took a breath.

"My lady, it appears there is...an issue I suppose, one that is most grave." Sif rolled her eyes and gritted her teeth, she was an impatient soul and Volstagg always took an age to explain anything if it wasn't about food.

"Spit it out Volstagg!"

"Aye, apologies...Fair Sif, it appears the Queen has returned unto the land of the living." He spoke fast now, fear trembling in his low tones.

"That is not possible. We all saw her burn. Our beloved Queen is in Valhalla!" Hot tears pricked her eyes, how could they bring up such a subject? She looked down to marbled floors and her eyes fell upon the body again.

"Whence is Thor? Still with Loki?" Fandral shook his head and pointed to the body below.

"Thou must be jesting. This is not Thor..." She scans their faces, not a smile or laugh in sight. Her heart dropped. Surely not? The thunder god could not be that mummified mass...could he? Was he dead? Or just trapped?

"Whom did this...." She spoke slowly now, her voice shaking in anger, her teeth tightly gritted together.

"Loki....and Frigga." Hogun piped up at last, watching Sif's eyes open wide. Frigga wouldn't do such an act.

"She really has returned? But this is...not like her.." The female protested.

"Aye, and it isn't her. Loki tried unto bring her back from the dead, but although her form has been recreated her soul is impartial, he is manipulating whatever essence there is unto help him take down Thor. Which he has done well." Fandral spoke clearly, his face expressionless. This was a new threat for all of them. How were they meant to take down two of Asgard's finest magic users?
