The Gem

Darkness dispersed and the light began to rise upon the golden realm. The denizen's began to rise from their rested slumber, their forms restored and ready for another day.

Laughter and clinking rang out from the breakfast hall as the Lady Sif past on her path to the square of the All-Father. The central location in which the people gathered to socialise and show respect upon their king.

Alas on this new dawn the square was not as cheerful as she usually found it. Instead she found a crowd had formed, their concerned murmurs echoing through her ears.

"Move aside..." She ordered as she reach the outer edge and gathering began to part to let her through.

She raised a brow when her eyes fell upon the cause of the commotion. A small box was sat upon the ground.

"Tis but an object..." She mocked, getting closer to it.

"Nay M'lady! Adir...he touched it..he is now gone..." A shrill voice cried from the back of the crowd. Adir's wife, her eyes red and blotchy.

Sif looked down at the box. Whatever it did she couldn't just leave it there.

She bent down and sighed.

"Tis just a box..." She mumbled to herself as she eyed it's markings, but if what they said was true she shouldn't touch it. However if Adir has been taken, his wife's appearance confirms that, perhaps he was still alive; and she couldn't just leave him.

She opened the lid of the box and felt a heat searing through her skin. The cries of the crowd diminishing and her form evaporating.

The warrior maiden moaned as she awoke, her head still spinning as she forced herself to sit up and open her eyes. It was dark all around, the ground hard with loose gravel and stones.

She was not upon Asgard anymore, that much was clear.

She rolled onto her knees and hoisted herself onto her feet. She had to duck slightly to avoid hitting her head on the rocks above her.

"A cave..." She mused as she tried to get her bearings.

She trudged forwards slowly, watching her step against the darkened path ahead.

After a while of disorientating blackness her feet collided with something hard, but it was not her who grunted.

She froze and withdrew her blade, thrusting it down at the ground.

"Whom be there?" She sneered, squinting to attempt to get a better look.

"Lady Sif?" A hoarse voice met her ears. A familiar voice.

"Adir?" She crouched down and felt around for the figure.

"Aye..." He spoke weakly.

"I can't not see thee...art thou hurt?"

He grunted and a small light began to emanate from his what appeared to be his hand, bathing them in a soft red glow. Sif gasped as her eyes fell upon him. His eyes sunk, his skin pale and in most areas had began to flake and peel off his body, revealing muscle and in worse areas; bone.

"What happened unto thee?" She frowned in concern.

"Twas he, the one they name Gorak, he wishes to build an army of brainwashed Asgardians. I failed the procedure..." He coughed and blood splattered from his mouth. Sif shook her head and bit her lip in frustration, an army of Asgardians is most definitely a strong one and brainwashed with dark magic would make them near on unstoppable but what was this man doing to turn them into blood riddled, flesh peeling corpses?
