{True Blood}

The shield maiden entered the lavish library, the ancient texts here always taught her a new lesson, which she passed onto to those she trained. "Such inspiring texts.." She mused to herself as she ran a finger along the many binds of books sat upon the golden shelves. The warrior mused on which text to indulge in when she came across a small brown, leather bound book, crammed in between two much larger prints. She looked around her to see if anyone was watching, content there was no one, she prised the thin book from it's place on the shelf. She positioned herself upon a small ledge, semi covered in darkness as she opened the text in her hands. The dust that covered it was at least an inch thick, clearly this had been hidden and she wasn't entirely sure if it was meant to be discovered.

Her brows furrowed as she read the contents, learning of a betrayal so strong it could rock everything she knew, the woman who had written this had not been a faithful one. "Why would there be a journal stuffed away in all this?" She mused as she continued to read. Her jaw dropped as she read a passage within it. "She was my child, my beautiful blonde haired bebe. How I wish I could see her grow into a beautiful maiden, alas I can not. For she is not the child of my husband, he would not condone her to live within these halls. I hath nay choice but to send her away and cover up her birth, to live with her father and his son. My husband wilt never know whence I sent her. My young Sif would grow to be a strong woman. That I know." Sif's eye opened wide at the mention of her name, she flicked through the journal hastily for more information but none came. "Perhaps the All-Mother wilt know whence this came from?" She stood and tucked the book into her breastplate, leaving the library behind her as she sought out the Queen.

"Lady Sif?" She smiled sweetly as the goddess entered the Queen's private chambers.
"My Queen." She bowed respectfully. "May I speak with thee?" Frigga smiled and approached her with her hands out wide in welcome.
"Of course my child, what is it? Thou look most troubled." She saw the concern on Sif's features and placed a soothing hand on her arm.
"My Queen I have found a journal of sorts in the library, I know not how it got there and I shouldn't have read it but, I wondered if thou knew whence it came from?" She pulled the book out and showed it to Frigga. Her own face now matching that of the scarlet woman ahead of her.
"Thou got this from the library?" Her voice was distant, her eyes glossed over, her breathing slowed.
"Thy Majesty?" Frigga took the book and turned away.
"Sif how much of this did thou read?"
Sif wanted to follow but stayed back. "My name was mentioned. Was this my mother's?" She bit her lip hard enough to cause it to turn red. "Well, it must hath been right? Alas what I doth not understand is what she says? It does not fit the tale I know...the one I was told as an adolescent."
Frigga remained quiet for a while before she exhaled loudly. "It wilt not my dear, because the story thou know, is a lie.." She rubbed her temples lightly.. "Thy mother was not kidnapped by renegades searching for thy father. She twas not murdered and thou were not sent to live with the father thou knew because thou were in danger." Sif stood quiet. Waiting for the Queen to continue, Frigga kept her back to her. "The father thou grew up with thinking was not thy father, verily was." She finally turned back to face the warrior. "I know because...he and I...we gave into each other's desire for the other. We participated in one night of passion, resulting in the birth of a child." Sif's jaw dropped and her breath caught in her throat.
"Me?" Sif choked, Frigga nodded. "But...the bandit my mother had an affair with?"
"A lie; the bandit twas a cover story, the mother thou thought murdered, also a lie. A complex web, to protect me."
Sif went pale. "So thou art my mother? My real mother?"
Frigga nodded slowly. "Aye..Odin refused to hath thee in our court. I told him I sent thou to live with a couple in another realm. That he would never see thee." Anger rose within Sif.
"What about my grandmother? Was she really the woman I visited and thought I put in danger by doing so because of the 'bounty' on my head?"
"She was real, she is thine and Heimdall's grandmother. Paid handsomely to play her part of the lie. Hence her never coming to court to see thee, nor Heimdall." Sif shook her head, it was too much to take in. Too much to accept.
She opened her mouth to talk but no words escaped them, questions filled her mind but none came to her tongue.
"I..." She frowned and turned away so the queen couldn't see the tears that formed in the warrior's eyes. She strode from the chambers, not looking back. Her childhood was a lie, her heart was heavy, her head dazed. She needed to be alone. This was something we would figure out in time but for now she didn't want to think about it. Her feet took her to a place where she drowned all sorrows, all ailments and relaxed after returning from battle. Her hands pressed against the wooden door as she pushed it open. The hustle and bustle of the tavern filled her ears, soothing her instantly. "The usual M'lady?"
"Aye..." She sighed as she sat down upon a stool, staring into the bottom of the ale flagon now sat in front of her.
