Chapter 17

We parked in the parking lot in front of this building, and then walked beside the train tracks to the basketball court further down.
I sat down on the curb and watched Cody and Angel play together and it made me laugh how into the game Cody was.
I could hear the train tracks behind me start rattling so I looked down them to see a freight train was coming, then looked back at the boys to see Angel had made a shot and we all three cheered.
"ANGEL!!!ANGEL!!ANGEL!!Reigning champ of the free-fire zone!!",Cody cheered and I laughed.
Angel got up and the pole and cheered even as I laughed and watched Cody start walkin away.
"Hey, where ya goin?", I asked.
"Homework",he said to me then looked between Angel and I."Join me. Could be fun."

I rolled my eyes at him, but stood up and stood beside him, leaning on his shoulder.
"If you were'nt my brother...I'd say you were totally fucked in the head",Angel smirked and Cody smiled.
"Other then that you love me right?",Cody said and I turned to look at him, I ended up staring at him, but I could'nt help it.
Hes hot people.
Angel shook his head and looked at the ground, then smirked and looked back up at him.
"Right", Angel said.
"Same here",Cody smirked back.

I smiled a little and sighed looking at Angel while still leaning on Cody's shoulder.
"You comin with us?",I asked.
"Nah...I'm gunna stay here for a while I think", he nodded."I'll walk it home."
"You sure about that?Walkin home?Angel you know how I hate it when you do that", I shook my head.
This is where my motherly side comes out.
And it's not the first time either.
The entire time Cody was still in jail, Cody and Angels mom was always high so she did'nt care about Sonny or Angel at all.
So I kinda stepped up as a sister figure to Sonny and a mother figure to Angel.
And I guess, that just never left me.

I watched as he laughed at my reaction, then rolled his eyes and looked at me.
"Mom, I'll be fine ok?",he said, and I froze.
He did'nt say "mom" in a joking way like he always does, he sounded like he meant it, and that made me smile.
I sighed and crossed my arms, then rolled my eyes too and nodded.
"Alright, but here, take me knife ok-just in case", I said as I took it out of my pocket and handed it to him."You remember how to use it right?"
"Yea, I remember", he nodded then took it and put it in his pocket.

"Alright, just be careful ok?", I said as I messed with his hair and he shook his head all around so I could'nt mess with it anymore.
"I will", he said, then he ran forward and hugged me."Love you, Mom."
I smiled and hugged him back immediately, squeezing the life outta him probably.
"I love you too baby", I said back then kissed the top of his head and we let each other go.
He went and made another shot and I smiled then turned back to Cody who was smiling at me.
"What?", I said, and he shook his head.
"I just like that your always there for him, and your his mother figure",he shrugged."I mean...as I'm sure you know, our mom hates all three of er kids, so it's good to know he can go to you."
I smiled back at him and turned to see Angel make a lay up and he turned towards us with a shocked look on his face.
"Did ya see that!?!",he said excitedly and I laughed and turned back to Cody.

"Yeaaa, but other then that you love me right?", I quoted him and he smirked.
"Right",he nodded.
"Same here", I said as we stared at each other for a few, but then the train whistle brought us back."Come on, let's go get to homework."
I rolled my eyes and grabbed his arm tuggin him towards the parking lot.
"ANGEL!!ANGEL!!ANGEL!!",Cody cheered then he followed me and I laughed while we ran alongside the train as it went by.
