"What the freaking hell happened here?" Your eyes widened when you stepped into the living room. You had to admit that you couldn't remember the last time you had cleaned up here, but you did remember that it had not been the big mess it was right now.

"I can explain." Kai had a hand in his neck and he took a few deep breaths while he looked around. "Look, here is the thing." He paused for a moment and he shifted his weight from one leg to the other. "I wanted to surprise you with a new bookcase. So, I bought one and it was this do it yourself thing and they told me that every idiot could do it." He looked around and he bit his lip. "I don't know if he meant that only idiots could do it, but I don't understand a thing of this whole manual."

Maybe if your living room had not looked like a warzone, you would have laughed. Maybe if your tapestry wouldn't have been ruined for life, you would have appreciated his attempt. Maybe if you would have an idea on how to clean this up again, you wouldn't have been this angry. "Well, that surprise of yours is not that great, actually." You tensed all your muscles and breathed in and out a few times to make sure you wouldn't sound too harsh.

"But the intention was, right?" Kai looked up at you and he widened his eyes a little. "You said it yourself! You had no bookshelves left anymore and you still wanted to buy a lot of books. I really thought you'd like it!" He pouted, but even that little gesture couldn't make your anger disappear.

"Your intentions, Kai..." You sighed. "Don't mean a thing if the result is so crappy." You looked around and you felt the tears burning in your eyes. "You always have those so called good intentions. And somehow they always end terribly wrong."

"I'm sorry! I really am!" Kai hurried to interrupt you. "I'm sorry about this mess, I'm sorry about the guy I accidentally killed because he refused to give you the change you thought you would get, even though you had calculated wrong." He licked his lips. "And I'm really sorry that I almost killed Elena because she and Damon pissed me off on our double date."

You hid your face in the palm of your hand. Somehow you started to understand why Elena and Caroline kept on asking you what you were seeing in the former sociopath. You had assured them countless times that he had emotions now, that he just needed time to adjust to them, that he had fallen in love with you and that everyone capable of love could become a good person somehow, but sometimes, like right now, you were wondering why you were still doing all of this, why you kept on trying, why you kept on forgiving him.

"Please, (Y/N), I'll clean up everything and I'll pay for the new tapestry and I will make sure that you're gonna love the bookcase!" Kai walked towards you and he grabbed your hands, holding on to them as tightly as possible. "Please..." He pouted once more and with his eyes wide open he started to look like a little puppy that destroyed the entire house and wondered if his family still loved him. "Just smile, I really need to see you smile right now, I need to know that you're not angry. I'm sorry, okay? I really am!"

You rolled your eyes, but you did feel your lips curling up a little. "You do know that you have a lot to make up for, do you?"

"I do! And I will make up for everything! Really!"

"Fine, in that case you're forgiven, sort of..."
