"Get ready for the war." My mates voice says via mind link. I couldn't believe it. The war has started.
I look back at my twin and mum, wide eyed. "Oh goddess." Anastasia whispers and this snaps me out of my shocked trance like state. I straighten up. "Come on. Let's get to the bunkers." I say and the three of us briskly jog to the orphanage. Pack members ran along side us and some ran in the other direction, getting ready to fight in the war.
Be safe, princess.
My mates voice calms down my panic a notch.
Like wise. Don't do anything stupid.
As we reach the Pack House, I shoo everyone inside. Everyone had panic written all over their face and it put me on more of an edge then I already was on.
Amongst the crowd, I spot Sofia. "Come on. We have to get everyone in on time." She says to me and I nod my head in agreement. "One of us needs to check the pack house for any one left behind." She adds after a second. "I'll go." I volunteer and don't wait for a response. I briskly walk through the crowd of people, answering any of their questions in short brisk sentences. When I reach the front door, I notice it's fairly quiet. Even so, I check every room.
I've checked almost every room when I hear what sounded like suppressed sobs. My eyes slightly widen knowing that there was still someone here. Someone away from safety. I knew that people were already fighting. It was dangerous. I run in the direction of the sobs. I'm surprised when I realise that I'm standing in front of Sky's room.
I open the door to find Sky huddled up in the corner of her room. When she sees me, her eyes widen. I slowly walk over to her.
Why was she still here?
"Skylar." I whisper, wrapping her up in my arms. She struggles against me but I just hold on tighter. "Why aren't you in the bunkers?" I ask her when she finally stops struggling. It takes her a second to respond and when she does, my heart breaks.
"I don't deserve to survive."
I feel my eyes widen as I register her words. In the back of my mind, the image of war keeps replaying, telling me I have limited time. I don't listen to it though. My better judgement is being clouded over by Sky's tearful face.
"You do deserve to survive. You deserve to live. To be happy." I say, not letting my voice waver. I needed her to believe me. For both her sake and mine. "You could have died because of me." She wails through her sobs. "You were only protecting Leah." I say.
I was getting more and more anxious as the seconds passed.
Sky doesn't respond to this and I decide to continue talking about Leah. "Are you going to leave Leah?" I ask and I see her eyes cloud over with conflict, her eyebrows furrowing. "Come on, Sky. Let's go to Leah." I try to persuade. After a second, she stands up on wobbly feet and I have to refrain myself from smiling in triumph.
We quickly trek outside and I make sure that there aren't any rogues around.
I could hear the fight from all the way here. There was howls, growls and pained wails. It was horrible to listen to.
I grab Sky's arm and start jogging. We reach the orphanage to find that it was empty. This was a good sign because I know that everyone is already underground, safe. I lead Sky to one of the back rooms in the orphanage and look around for the hidden latch.
Bingo.
I scurry to it with Skylar besides me and I throw the door open, revealing a set of stairs. At the bottom of it, I could see Sofia. She looks up at me with a relieved look. I then turn to Sky. "Go." I order and she goes down the stairs until she's at the bottom. Sofia gives her directions and Sky walks out of my line of sight.
