"She is not a Kshatriya, and no Shudra must be honoured..." Warned Rajguru Venkata.

"Rajguru Venkata, and what do the Shastra's mention regarding the person who saves someone's life?" Challenged Kumar Amarendra.

"Maithali saved my life, she accompanied me to Peddapuram only to make sure that I am safe..."

"Kumar," Cut in Rajguru Venkata raising his finger, "If you continue falling prey to her works then I am sure that you will make her your wife instead of Rajkumari Hirankashi."

Kumar Amarendra glared at him and said, "FINE, I AM WILLING TO."

The court fell silent, the only sound heard was the murmur among the courtiers.

"If by marrying her, her standard is increased from Shudra to Kshatriya then I'll marry her." Announced Kumar Amarendra.

No, no,no ....... Thought Rani Maalavi Devi biting her lower lip... This is not the way it was supposed to go.

Raja Ekchandra Mudiraj glared at Rani Maalavi Devi from the corner of his eye and she turned to Kumar Subbayya who looked flushed in anger.

Kumar Rudhra Deva looked at Maithali who was standing at the centre of the court with a coy grin. She nodded her head slightly with a victorious grin.

"KUMAR AMARENDRA," Yelled Rajguru Venkata on top of his voice, "YOU ARE GOING AGAINST THE SHASTRA'S...."

"I DO NOT CARE ABOUT WHAT THE SHASTRA'S SAY...." He replied, "If a person who has done good will not get a reward, then there's no use of any religion nor tradition."

"KUMAR AMARENDRA," Began the king standing up from the throne, the rest of the courtiers stood up too. "You must abide by tradition, and the tradition of Maheshmati specifies that a Shudra must maintain distance from any of the upper castes."

"Nanna, if caste plays so much importance then, we shouldn't hire any Shudra to be our servant, dancer or a singer. When you employ them, you yourself are breaking the tradition." Said Kumar Amarendra.

"I agree with anna." Said Kumar Rudhra. "If a mere soldier can be awarded for his services, then a woman like Maithali who saved the life of the Yuvraja of Maheshmati should be rewarded as well."

"RUDHRA DEVA..." Screamed Rani Maalavi Devi, "What is wrong is wrong, it shall NEVER BE RIGHT."

She looked at Maithali and spat saying, "A WHORE LIKE YOU WENT TO PEDDAPURAM ONLY TO RECEIVE A REWARD. YOU ARE JUST A DANCER. YOU ARE NOT COMING ANYWHERE CLOSE TO MY SONS.... BLOODY WHORE!"

She left the court swearing and cursing under her breath.

Maithali stood still, there was no sign of pain or agony on her face. Her heart had hardened against emotions, her ears were deaf to the curses, her body rigid to torture. She had made herself a rock. Neither the wind could shake her nor the storms of night. Neither the sun could burn her nor the rain could wet her. The only thing that could change her was Kumar Amarendra's gentle touch like the waves of a stream that bend and shape the hardest of rocks.
