Avantika continued being carried by the waves, unconscious and unaware, she did not even know whether she was alive or in her mother's embrace.
Her lifeless body drifted and was finally spotted by a few villagers who were patroling the village, as night watchmen.
"LOOK! SOMEONE IS THERE!!" Informed one of the men among the ten who were keeping guard.
They rushed to the cold body, wet and drenched in muck. Checking her pulse he shouted out in glee, "She is still alive."
"Get her soon in the hutments." Ordered a man holding the brightly lit torch, over which a few insects were hovering at a safe distance, atleast they weren't charred to death by the bright yellow flames.
"Gopikanata!" Called the man barging into his hut, leaving the door wide open behind, allowing the men to enter carrying Avantika.
The woman woke up on hearing her husband's voice and sat up rubbing her eye's asking, "What is wrong swami ?"
"Gopikanata, there is a girl, whom you must treat immediately." He said.
She rose from the bed and walked out and saw the girl now laying on the cot. She sat down beside her and took hold of her right wrist and checked her pulse.
"Too faint." She concluded, "She may die any moment. There are too many injuries."
"Try to save her as much as you can." He insisted.
"Alright." She agreed reluctantly, sure that all her hardwork would soon be down in the drains since she knew that the girl would die.
"All of you go out, I will need to clean and get her changed."
With that one order, the men marched out of the hut and she shut the door.
She wiped her wounds and dressed her with the help of another woman.
"Check her pulse." Ordered Gopikanata.
The other woman held her wrist and pressed on her nerve and said, "She is-"
"Dead?" Asked Gopikanata making a preparation by crushing the herbs.

"No, akka(sister). Her pulse is faint but her heart is still holding on." She replied trying to hide the surprise in her voice.
Gopikanata looked back at the young lady who was applying a herbal medicine on her wounds and said, "Her soul isn't leaving her."
"Why so?" She asked.
"Anannya, when someone is praying for you with steadfast love, your soul cannot be taken away, because the love of that person is strong." Replied Gopikanata.
"Then what must have happened to her?" Asked a curious Anannya.
"That's what I don't understand." Mumbled Gopikanata. "Did you find the kumkumaor mangalsutra around her neck?"
