Zadie's POV:

"Check out what I've done with my locker," Adam announced proudly, swinging it open. "Tah-dah! Up here I keep my books. Down here, I store random strands of hair I've collected to make fake mustaches. And here's where I stockpile old lunches—my tum-tum yum-yums."

I eyed Adam's locker with concern, especially since it was right next to mine.

"Hey Leo, what's that?" Bree asked, pointing to a document in Leo's hand.

"My progress report. I can't believe my teacher always says I'm late to class."

Delta shrugged, "You are always late to class."

"I know, but I don't need it publicized," Leo grumbled.

Chase walked up to us, grumbling, "Look at this—an 'A-minus'! I knew my home ec teacher was out to get me. Always criticizing my muffins."

"Wait, you had muffins? And didn't share?" I sighed defeatedly, "That's not cool, dude."

Chase tilted his head and gave me a confused look.

Adam burst in with a grin. "Ha ha! I beat you! I got a 'D-plus'. Plus, because I'm better than you!"

Delta shook her head, thinking it over. "Adam, the plus means nothing if it's a 'D.' You know what, never mind. At least you've got your looks going for you."

"'D' is not a good grade, but we don't really expect you to get good grades. I'm engineered to be the smartest person on the planet, and I just got an 'A-minus.'" Chase exclaimed. "I've been relegated to into the huddled, unwashed masses of minuses, like you!"

"Chase, I know this must me hard for you, but, I mean, look at the bright side, seeing you fall flat on your face is really fun for us." Bree told him.

"I have got to find a way to reclaim my superiority."

"Well, you could sign up for the student of the semester competition." Leo offered.

"What's that?" Chase asked, now interested.

"Well, every semester, kids compete to see who can best improve the school." Leo explained. "Whoever gets the most votes wins free pencils, a bumper sticker, and a cheesy picture of himself on the wall."

Chase grinned. "And that cheesy picture will show everyone that my brilliance reigns supreme. I am so gonna win."

Adam excitedly chimed in, "I call the free pencils. No, wait, I'll take the cheesy picture. Oh gosh, they both sound so good!"

The bell rang, and Adam and Chase exchanged glances "Race ya!" they shouted, sprinting off.

I threw my backpack over my shoulder and followed after, huffing, "Why do you guys always have to run?"

I was heading down the stairs when I spotted Chase standing at the bottom, handing out business cards with a big grin on his face.

"Hey, vote for Chase! Tell your friends! Vote for Chase for Student of the Semester. Here's my website where you can check out my platform, marvel at my skills, or even play a game of Chase trivia, where all the answers are about me," he told a group of students as I joined him.

"Zadie, hey." he said, handing me a card. "So, what do you think?"

I took the card, my eyes lingering on him as I read it. "Wow, Chase. This is... really something." I smirked, "Dorky, nerdy and charming. Can't get better than that."
