The One With the Chip Switch

Zadie's POV:
Leo and I stepped off the elevator just in time to nearly run into Principal Perry.

"Dooley! Wesley!" She barked. "What are you doing in my elevator?"

I raised an eyebrow, "your elevator?"

She shot me a look.

"Use the stairs! This is how healthy kids become unhealthy adults."

Leo looked her up and down, "Really? Are we having this conversation?"

"For your information, I'm a speed walker. Perhaps you've seen me at the Mission Creek Mall giving the shoppers a little eye candy."

Leo and I shared uncomfortable glances.

Perry got the attention of the students.

"Listen up, space-fillers! This is Emergency Preparedness Week. An emergency drill can happen at any time. So when the alarm sounds, you must evacuate the building in an orderly fashion-like cattle, if cattle had acne... and braces... and a future filling up my gas tank."

She marched away without another word.

"She just has such a way with words." Delta commented.

"Oh man, I wish I had Bree's super speed." Adam said, "Because you do not want to be stuck walking behind a cow in an emergency; trust me on that."

"You would trade your super strength for Bree's super speed?" Chase asked. "Man, if I had your strength, I'd just run out of the building juggling those cows."

"Yeah," Bree shot back, "and if I had your super intelligence, I'd have walked away from this conversation thirty seconds ago."

"I should've left after Perry started talking." I mumbled.

Leo snapped his fingers.

"Hey, you know what would be awesome? If you guys took out your bionic chips and switched abilities."

The three bionic siblings looked at each other.

"What can't we?" Chase asked.

"I call your super smarts!" Bree said.

"I call your super speed!" Adam added.

"I call your super strength!" Chase pointed.

Delta looked at me.

"This feels like something they're gonna get in trouble for."

I nodded. "Oh, they for sure are."

-The Lab-

The next morning, we wandered into the lab to find Adam, Bree, and Chase already standing beside the capsules.

"Why do I feel like we're here to witness something incredibly stupid?" I asked.

Leo shrugged. "No idea...but Zadie does have a point." He turned to the three bionics. "If you guys are gonna switch your chips before school, don't you think you should run this by Davenport first?"

"They're our chips," Bree replied.

" Well yeah, but what if something glitches out and you end up with Adam's gigantic head on Chase's tiny, doll-like body?"

Delta and I laughed, although, Chase looked quite offended.

"We don't have to ask daddy for permission on every single thing we do."

"Yeah," Adam agreed. "Do you think I ask Davenport which shoe goes on which foot? No. I label them 'left' and 'not left.'"

He proudly placed each foot on the console.
