The One With People From the Future

Zadie's POV:

For a Monday, I was up surprisingly early.

I headed downstairs in an oversized t-shirt and athletic shorts, my hair still in a braid from the night before. Alex was already sitting at the kitchen island scrolling through her phone while Wren watched cartoons before school.

I picked up the gallon of milk for cereal, then spotted the leftover pizza, which sounded much better.

The front door opened right as I grabbed a slice from the fridge.

"Hello?" Delta called.

I hopped up onto the kitchen counter to sit.

"In here."

She turned the corner, eyeing the pizza in my hand.

"Lunch?"

"Breakfast."

Delta laughed as she leaned against the counter.

"You ready to head to the Davenports?"

I motioned to my appearance. "Do I look ready?"

She smirked. "Want to look good for Chase?"

Before I could answer, Alex looked up from her phone.

"Oh?"

"Not like that." I attempted to stop her mind from wandering. "Delta..."

"Oh, yeah..." Delta scoffed. "They're just friends."

I pointed toward the front door.

"Come on before she starts asking follow-up questions."

Delta laughed as we slipped out the door.

A minute later, Zadie pushed open the Davenport front door.

"We're here, Davendorks!"

Tasha looked back from the kitchen counter.

"Hi girls." She smiled. "They're downstairs."

The girls stepped into the lab just as Davenport finished speaking.

"Did I forget anything?"

Bree folded her arms.

"Great. We'll just guess what the mission is and see how it plays out."

Davenport sighed, "Oh, right... A particle collider is a three mile long underground facility where scientists–."

Chase immediately cut him off, ecstatic.

"...race subatomic particles at each other at light speed for energy experiments. So cool!"

"I know!"

The two of them did their strange little science handshake before making an equally strange sound.

I leaned toward Delta.

"You know...it's a good thing he's cute."

Her eyes widened as Davenport continued.

"There is a particle collider in Berkeley that is accelerating out of control and your mission is to shut it down."

"Awesome!" Adam grinned. "I hope one of us knows how to do that."

"Okay. We have to act quickly." Davenport went into motion, "The scientists that operate the facility have already evacuated the control center, and if we don't shut it down in time, it will create a massive black hole that will implode the entire planet."

Leo's eyes widened.

"Today?! No, that's not gonna work."

Everyone looked at him.
