The One With the Death Spiral Smackdown

Zadie's POV:
School went the same as always. I was with the Davenports in the gym, where a platform was set up in the middle.

Principal Perry stepped onto it with an announcement, so most of the school had been herded into the gym. That alone should've been a warning.

"Prepare yourself, dingoes! It's time for my annual fitness challenge week! This year, forget about push-ups and sit-ups." Perry threw her arms in the air dramatically. "It's time for bruises, sprains, and freak accidents! I present... the Death Spiral Smackdown!"

"Hm," I grinned, "I'm suddenly intrigued.

"Why do you call it the Death Spiral?" Leo asked. "I mean, it doesn't look so scary to me."

"Why don't I have Vice Principal Cochran demonstrate it for you?"

Before he could even object, Cochran was shoved onto the spinning platform. It began to spin faster and faster with each pass, whipping him around until he flew off, crashing onto the gym floor.

Delta, who stood beside me watching with uncertainty, winced for him.

"It's not broken!" Perry yelled. "Walk it off!"

Adam blinked. "Wait, so how does it work?"

"You wrestle your opponent as it spins you silly. It'll test your strength, reflexes, and ability to hold your bladder against centrifugal force."

Leo's friend Gordo nudged him. "So, Leo, think you can handle it?"

I snorted, earning a side-eye from him.

"Well, my bladder's strong," Leo stated confidently, "but just to be safe, I'm sticking to dark gym shorts."

"I myself will be in a full body diaper." Gordo added. "In the face of fear, you'll never know where you're gonna leak from."

"If you have the guts, partner up, and choose carefully. Your survival depends on the decision you make." Perry looked around at the students, "...and there are very few good options."

I turned to Delta.

"So, you in?"

She pointed to the spinning platform. "For...that?"

"Duh."

"Um, I don't think so."

My face fell.

"Come on, it'll be fun."

She looked at me, unsure.

"Fine," she sighed, "but you owe me."

-The Next Day-
Before school, Delta and I dropped over to the Davenports' house.

"After school today is the big Death Spiral Smackdown." Leo announced as soon as we walked into the kitchen. "Me and Adam are gonna unleash the fury. You guys gonna come watch?" he asked Bree and Chase.

"We'd love to," Chase said, "but we're gonna go to the mall and check out the escalator. I finally mastered the art of stepping off without tripping."

Bree grimaced.

"Oh...were we supposed to do that today?" She asked. "Shoot. I can't make it. I have a really big test to study for."

I wasn't completely buying that.

"What?" Chase frowned. "Okay, fine. I just hope those old ladies are there to clap for me again."

"Aw." I laughed. "That's so cute."

Everyone looked at me.

I crossed my arms, "...I mean...pathetic."

Leo reached for a glass jar on the counter.
