CHAPTER 1: Something New

I look through the window with my black lined brown eyes as the car drives down the deserted street and I stare at all the buildings. There were never this many buildings where i come from, too many trees, I miss the trees, always a great place to hide. As i think about hiding, my mind goes to what this new school might be like. I shiver slightly at the thought of being a new kid. i hate being the center of attention, hell, i hate people looking at me in general, its just stupid, them with their judging stares, acting like they know you when they don't know shit. Yeah this is going to be a blast, i think to myself as i mentally roll my eyes.

"Kitty, stop looking so depressed. You'll be fine, its a whole new start, maybe you'll make some friends and actually get out of that cave you call a room," my overly medicated mother says from the passenger seat of the piece of shit preis they call a car.

"Mom, i think they have you on a few too many prescriptions, we all know thats never going to happen," the idiotic, egotistical, disgrace for a human being, that i am forced to call my brother, says form the seat next to me as he reaches over and has the audacity to touch my sides so i let out a loud squeak. I glare into the eyes of this devil spawn as he just sits and smiles that stupid shy guy smile that almost every cheerleader falls for, idiots. He taps my nose making me move my head back slightly and scrunch up my nose as he just bursts out laughing. I cross my arms and stare back out the window. As my "brother" comes back down from his momentary high he pats my shoulder a little harder than is totally necessary, "oh come on squeakers, you know it's funny," he says in a fake innocent voice.

"I TOLD YOU NEVER TO CALL ME THAT!!!" I basically screech as my voice raises a couple of actives, which is not helping my case at all. He just laughs at me, just like everyone else, he just laughs.

"Ok, ok, thats enough you too, we only have about 20 minutes left until we reach our new house, so just be nice until then, please? And that means stop antagonising your sister Jake" my dad says as he looks back at us through the rearview mirror. Jake mumbled out a fine and went back to texting his overly hyperactive bleach blond girlfriend, i swear that boy would die without a girl hanging on his arm, i'll give it two days before he breaks her frail little heart and goes onto the next 'big thing' at this new school. My dad is still looking into the mirror and i look back as he smiles lightly at me, almost apologetically. He knows i don't like this, he knows i would rather sit in a closed garage with the car running then have to go to a new town, no not a town, this is too big for a town, and a new school. The only reason we have to go to this place is because he had a job transfer, not that i would much rather live of the streets, but he basically begged and pleaded for me not to fight this, so i wont. My dad is the only one that i can actually go to, when i want human company that is, which is hardly ever.

I lay my head on the cold window, quite tired all of a sudden, i slip on my black, ruby studded sunglasses and close my eyes behind them, giving into the darkness as it consumes me and pulls me into the world of dreams.

"Hey. Hey, Kitty? Wake up Kitty. Come on sweetie, it's time to see your new home," I wake up slowly to the sound of my dad's voice as his hand shakes my shoulders. I slowly open my eyes to his smiling face, his light blue eyes lit up in excitement and his black hair sliding past them as he wipes it to the side. He motions for me to step out of the already open door as he walks over to my mother to help her so she doesn't fall on her face.

Jake walks up beside me as i look at the place where i will now call home. I feel a warm hand on my shoulder and i stiffen at the contact, a sigh emanates from the 6'3" boy beside me, when he feels me tense up. He looks down at me from 11 inches up, with a sad look in his piercing green eyes, running a shaking hand through his shoulder length night black hair, like he does when he's nervous or stressed, "Well," he says with a hesitant note in his thick deep voice, "I guess this is it, we aren't ever going back." He lays his hand back on my shoulder and stares straight into my chocolate brown eyes, "Kitty? Can you do me a huge favor, just this once? I wont ask for another thing for a long time? please?"

His eyes plead silently, adding emphasis to his already begging words, "What?" I say quietly.

"Just, let me have my sister back, just for a minute, I miss you, I just want you back for a moment. You know i wouldn't ask you if i didn't need you right now. This is knew to both of us and I just need a little bit of our old life back. Please?" He's really close to me know and i can smell the spearmint on his breath from his favorite gum.

I sigh lightly, not knowing what else to do as I answer with a quiet voice, "I don't know how much of her is left, Jake, I'm sorry, I don't know what you want me to do."

"Just, don't freak out, ok?" before I could even answer him, I felt his thick arms go around me and his head go on my shoulder. I folded my hands in front of my chest and just let him hug me, not wanting to hurt his feelings, I'm actually kinda glad that this demon spawn is finally showing some part of his runned down soul. He pulls back, but keeps one hand on my shoulder and with the other hand making a fist in the space between our bodies with his pinky finger out. He had a goofy grin on his face as he asked in a slightly childish voice, "Twins?"

"Twins," I agree with a slight nod as I hook my pinky finger with his like we did when we were little.

"Well," he says with a slight smile, "at least we know one thing."

"What's that?" I ask hesitantly.

"No matter where we go, Hell will always follow," He says smiling and i just nod.

He lets go of my little finger and resumes his tough guy act as I drain all the emotion out of my features as I just stand there. Then he quickly looks over at me with a competitive glint in his eyes as he quickly says, "race you," and takes off running. I quickly follow in his footsteps as my long brown hair follows behind me like a thick shadow under the night sky, not knowing exactly how right my twin was.
