"Honey," Rose chimed up, as her and her love were walking down the stairwell together. They were going more further together. "What exactly what are we doing down here? I thought you were supposed to be helping me out with my powers? Not giving me another tour."
He laughed lightly under his breath. "No, my love, we are going to be starting your training. Your powers are more on the defensive side than the rest of the team. Which is one of our advantages, and very in character for you. You have practically master invisibility. But your force fields need to be imported by size and durability. The energy is drawn from your body and sustained by your concentration. So you must clear your mind and concentrate, the more concentration the less of a tole on your body. So we need to put you in a place you can practice. Are you ready?"
"Not really," Rosemary shrugged, not fully sure of what she had said. It didn't make much sense.
They went into the bunker where Alex was far across from them with something strapped to his chest. Charles placed her down on an X. She looked at him very confused as he moved away and stood with Hank who looked extremely nervous for some reason.
"When you are ready Rosemary, Alex charge and fire at Rosemary. Rose, my love, generate and sustain and force field or else Alex's blast will burst you. Now we can't have that. So please focus on it," Charles instructed, as if it was no big deal that he was putting his faith in a girl who could barely make a force field strong enough to keep Angel from leaving them. This was a death sentence for sure.
"Charles if this is a twisted way of breaking up with me than go ahead, but I am not strong enough to stop Alex's blasts head on."
"Believe in yourself, love. I do."
She nodded and looked forward at Alex who looked as if he was saying sorry beforehand. He got ready and prepared to fire at her. As he Fire at her in a straight beam she ran away. "CAN'T DO IT!" The beam hit the wall and that was it, but she ran up the stairs and away from the training room. Charles shook his head and followed after her up the stairs.
"Charles," Hank stated, following behind him. "Excuse me, but I don't think Rosemary is ready for training this advanced. She doesn't seem ready."
"No she is, she just needs help," he followed after her.
Hank stopped following as Charles walked down the halls, up the stairs, and into the gym where Raven was often training. But Raven wasn't there anymore and instead Rose was seated in there. She had her knees to her chest, sitting on the weights lift chair, and was looking outside the window at the large field in front of them. He closed the door which made her turn her head a little to see her boyfriend and then turn back to the window.
"I'm not going back, Charles."
"I know, and I don't have to read your mind to know what you are thinking. I never have."
He sat behind her and rubbed her back. Her long brown hair was in a ponytail. She had no makeup on. And she was wearing a thin purple tank top and grey sweatpants.
"So are you going to tell me what's wrong, because I wouldn't like to read your mind," Charles asked.
She shook her head slowly. "Nothing is wrong. I just can't use my powers very well and everyone is improving so much and it feels like I'm getting weaker everyday."
He smiled to himself. He wrapped an arm around her, she turned around to face him before turning away again. He laid his head on her shoulder and kissed it lightly, causing her to shudder and sit upright. "Love, you aren't getting weaker. Your powers aren't taking a major step backwards. Your powers are dominated by the will of your mind. If you aren't concentrating than it won't work. You have been so distracted lately. Not sleeping okay, acting out of character, losing your self confidence. Please tell me what is wrong."
She took a deep sigh and rubbed his hand that was on her. She liked the feeling of being held by Charles like this and almost didn't want to say anything at all and just enjoy the feeling of being held. But if she was going to share with anyone it would be Charles. "I don't know. I have just been off since this all began. And as we go further the more real this all just becomes." He looked at her confused. She elaborated, "everything. Shaw. The missiles. Darwin's death. You and me. Just like everything is becoming so real and I will let people down. I will let you down. That I am not strong enough or not good enough to help. Everyone made so much progress so far but I can barely make a force field."
"Rose, is that what you are worried about?" He asked. She nodded her head lowly. She had felt nervous about what would happen when they all faced off and she couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen. He brushed back some of her loose hair. "Love, there is nothing to worry about. We have all made progress and you have too. When I met you, you could barely keep yourself visible. And a few days ago you lifted Erik and I from the water. So I know you can manage what will happen next. And as for us, I don't know why you are worried bout that. I love you unconditionally, Rosemary Masterson."
She smiled and laughed to herself. She was always so self conscious that for once the things were mother said were real. That what they had wasn't real and for sure permanent. "You always seem to know what to say. I love you too, Charles Xavier. With my whole heart, thank you." He rubbed her back again before sitting up and looked into her eyes and leaned down for a kiss.
She kissed him back passionately, lacing her fingers into his hair and pulling him closer to her. His arms moved slowly down her back to her waist, sending shivers down her back and making her weak in the knees. She moved her hands up his nape and ran her hands through his locks of brown hair. He pulled away for a second, cashing her to pant and open her eyes.
"Are you alright now, love?"
"Yeah," she nodded, "but I am still not going to let Alex shoot a beam of whatever-the-hell-that- is at me."
He laughed and then leaned down and kissed her again.
~*****~
"Okay, Alex we are going to try this one last time," Charles instructed him as the blonde looked at the petite brunette standing on the X getting into a ready position. Charles looked at his girlfriend, "ready, Rose."
She turned to face Alex and nodded her head. "Yeah."
And with that Alex got ready and fired a blast at Rosemary. She held her elbow and stood her ground. Before the blast could hit her, she had formed a large green force field. She held her ground. The blast was strong and was lasting a long time as she kept her ground. Her feet skidded back a bit as she struggled to beat the unyielding force of Alex's blast. But she stood her ground and kept her ground. As she held it off until Alex finished.
When he finished all that remained was her force field that managed to keep her safe. She fell onto her knees and breathed heavily. She smiled to herself. Charles clapped for her as she started to get all bubbly and giddy. She stood up and raised her arms up and cheered in victory. "Wow!" Alex, Hank, and Charles laughed at her antics that were absolutely hilarious.
Sorry for the short chapter. Longer ones to come. As the beach is soon approaching.
