Sam POV

I walked in my room and laid down on my bed, staring at the ceiling. I thought about what happened that day. It was stupid of me to agree to go out with Jake in the first place. I guess I just wanted to see if we had sparks. We didn’t. Back in the hospital, I thought we did. We just…clicked. It was like I could talk about anything with him without awkwardness. But I realized it’s because I see him as a best friend. The thought of being with Jake as boyfriend and girlfriend made me shudder. It was like committing incest. So basically, I just see Jake as a brother. I wish I had seen it sooner. Good thing, Jake was so understanding because I didn’t want to give him false hope. I also realized how selfish I was to agree on a date with Jake, the brother of my ex-boyfriend slash best friend. I didn’t stop to think about what he might feel. Of course, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what he would feel if he finds out I went out with his brother. He’s gonna get hurt and the thought of Chase in pain hurt me too. I didn’t understand why but it did. I looked at my window, it was raining hard. Then I stared at the window across mine, Chase’s window. The lights were on but he’s nowhere to be seen. I drifted to sleep thinking about Chase.

I woke up in the middle of night when I heard noise. I sat up and turned on my lampshade. I was trying to figure out where the noise was coming from then I saw stones being thrown at my window. My first thought was, ‘What the hell?’ Who would throw stone at my window in the middle of the night? So that’s where the noise was coming from. I was quite scared because I was alone in the house. MY parents had to go out of town for a business trip and like they usually do, they left Michelle at my grandma’s house so I didn’t have to worry about her when I go to school. I picked up a baseball bat under my bed. Dad placed it there so I can defend myself in case there was an intruder in our house and I was alone. I looked outside my window and saw Chase throwing stones. I sighed. What the hell was he doing?

I put back my baseball bat under my bed and ran downstairs then unlocked my door.

“Chase?” I called.

He was sitting at the ground and was dripping wet from the rain.

“Chase, what are you doing there? You’re gonna catch a cold.” I told him.

He stood up and finally looked at me and his face lit up which gave me a warm feeling. Then his eyes widened and he suddenly looked scared.

“What’s wrong, Chase?”

“The ground is shaking! There’s an earthquake!”

I frowned. The ground wasn’t shaking. I stared at him for a moment then understood what’s happening.

“You’re drunk.” I stated.

He nodded his head excitedly.

“Where’s your Mom?” I asked.

“She won’t come home today.” He looked sad.
