Chase POV
As soon as the man on the other line told me what hospital Sam was brought, I hopped into my car and rushed there. I didn’t even give a damn about my speed limit anymore. Fuck that. I didn’t give a damn about anything that time anymore. All I wanted is to see Sam breathing and smiling. I tried convincing myself that the man got it wrong. It wasn’t Sam who was in the hospital. She even called me while I was inside the bar. It couldn’t be. Sam couldn’t die. Shit. It was all my fault. If I haven’t been ignoring her, she wouldn’t have gone to the bar alone. Stupid immature Chase. Shit. I would never forgive myself if Sam died. No, she wouldn’t die. She promised me she would never leave me. Sam loves me enough to keep that promise, right?
I’ve reached the hospital and ran inside. I went to the receptionist and asked her where the girl that the policemen brought was. She looked at me with pity and for a moment, my heart sunk. I thought Sam was…dead. But she told me the girl was in operating room. I headed off to the operating room and there were a couple of cops outside together with Sam’s parents. The cops must have called them too. Nikki was sobbing uncontrollably while Edward had his arms wrapped around Nikki, trying to calm her down by whispering soothing words in her ear. But I could see Edward was just trying to be strong for Nikki’s sake. It looked like he’s gonna break any moment too. I don’t think they even noticed me. I was about to go inside when some nurses stopped me.
“Sorry, sir. But you can’t go inside.” The nurse said while blocking my way.
“Are you fucking kidding me?!? My girlfriend’s there! I need to see her, she needs me!” I shouted hysterically.
“Sorry, sir. But the doctors are performing an operation on the patient. You can’t go inside. You can see her when the operation’s done.” The nurse explained.
“No! I have to see Sam! You don’t understand—“
I stopped speaking when I felt a hand wrapped around my wrist. I turned around and saw Edward. He looked defeated. I looked at my reflection in his eyes and I looked just as defeated as him.
“C’mon, son.”
He dragged me to a seat. I was seated beside Nikki who was covering her face with her hands and bawling her eyes out. I wanted to comfort Nikki and pat her back then tell her everything’s gonna be okay. But I wasn’t even sure if my words would be true so I remained frozen there, watching her grieve. I put my face in my hands then pulled my hair in frustration. Everything was my fault.
I felt Edward seat slowly beside me.
“What did the doctors say?” I asked him, trying to keep my voice straight but failing as I heard my own voice break.
“Sam’s in critical condition. She has a 50/50 chance to live. They need to operate her.” He whispered.
“How did she get in a car accident?”
“Sam rode in a cab to go…somewhere. The driver was drunk and the cab crashed into a car. The policemen came after. They found her bathing in her own blood,” his voice broke. ”they saw her phone in her hand. they checked the call log and saw your name so they called you. They called us after.”
