It was about 11 at night, when Mal woke up.
The motel room Mal stays at with her older half sister, Lily, was smaller than what Mal was used to. One queen sized bed in the middle of the room, a desk and office chair pushed on one side, a television set and a mini fridge and a microwave a sink and then a small bathroom.
Mal's eyes shift to meet her sister's. "You're awake?" Mal asked, though after asking she felt fairly stupid for asking the obvious.
"Go back to sleep," Lily said, "Mal."
"I'm sorry, Lily," Mal apologizes, "for what I did, it wasn't fair that I got to spend so much time with mom and you didn't. I'm sorry that I turned her into a lizard before you got a chance to know her. I'm sorry…"
"Stop apologizing, Mal." Lily sat up, "None of this is your fault. It's unfair, yes, but it's not like you knew."
"That's the thing though," Mal sat up, "I should have been more considerate. Instead I was selfish."
"Just stop." Lily turned to look at Mal, "Its late. Go back to sleep."
Mal nods, lays her head on the pillow, then closes her eyes.
Lily watched her sister sleep, before drifting off to sleep, as well.
