Zay had walked to school the next day awkwardly. He wasn't sure what to expect when she brought out the car seat. He knew she was something but he didn't think she was hiding something. The car ride was quiet on the way there. Aside from the directions she had given to him. They barely spoke to each other. Which he gladly accepted becuase he sure as hell didn't know what to say.
"So, what's your name again?" Maya asked as they almost arrived to the daycare startling Zay. They were in the car for nine minutes and she hadn't said anything since. The only noise was the sound of Quavo rapping on his station and Maya mumbling along to the words which surprised him. He didn't expect her to have bars but then again he didn't expect her to be a mother. Was she a mother?
"Zay," He replied with a frown. How did she not know his name? Everyone knew his name "I'm in your literature class, and history, and Math, and Lunch."
"Oh wow." Maya scrunched her eyebrows genuinely surprised that they had that many classes together and she only seen him twice today. Or atleast she had thought
"Yeah," Zay mumbled still slightly confused as to how she didn't know him. Honesytly, Who did this girl think she was!? After a few moments of silence he spoke again "So, who are we picking up? Your sibling or something?"
"Or something." She replied saying nothing more.
Well that explains absolutely nothing, Zay thought sarcastically. What did that even mean? They could be doing anything at the moment. What if she was a criminal? He had seen the ID channel. She could be crazy for all he knew. Suddenly she mumbled for him to make a quick right making him pull into a daycare that looked freshly painted and built.
"I'll be right back." She told him opening the door.
"Still be here." He promised though it sounded like a mumble.
As she hopped out of his car. He couldn't help but smirk. She was so short. How was she so short with those legs? He briefly wondered what it would be that short. He was just picturing himself as andnd shrunken person like the movie Honey I Shrunk The Kids when he noticed Maya coming back. Holding a hand of a small toddler of things. A way to adorable toddler. Wearing a rainbow shirt and little black leggings? They were called leggings right? The little girl was talking happily about something and Maya smiled widely replying back.
"What the hell." Zay squinted through his tinted windows though he could see them perfectly fine. He sat up straighter as she came to the car opening it
"And we painted today! I love..." The little girl said before stopping. Finally noticing that it wasn't the car her mother? Sister? Had picked her up in the girl made the same confused face Maya had made a few moments ago before turning to her "Whose car is this?"
"A friend," Maya said putting her in her carseat "Buckle up."
He watched as the young girl nodded and did as she was told. He could tell that she was to smart for her age. She didn't speak in baby tone and she was to aware. Unlike most kids that was her age. After Maya checked that she was done. She closed the door softly before going back to the front. Zay could tell she was suddenly nervous. He could also feel little eyes on him. Before he could ask she was mumbling the address to him.
He could take a hint.
He really could. He didn't ask for the kids name but as she kept saying 'Mama are we almost there'. Zay kept quiet though he was shocked. Maya was a mother. She had a little girl, who was cute as a button he should add. With big blue eyes that she got from Maya. Her hair was widly curly and pushed back with a headband giving her a curly like fro. She had a cute little voice as she sung along to the station that Zay put on her for. He wasn't a big fan of pop music but he let it slide for her. As she left his car with Maya she gave him a big smile and a thank you mister before leaving with her mother.
