|Van|
Johnny Bond and I were set to play at a radio show the next morning. Although still shitfaced from previous night's heavy drinking, Bondy managed to pull it together and dragged himself out of bed and into our van. Dan was already seated in front when I entered the vehicle, as he explained the day's schedule to Larry, Bob and Benji.
Vienna was sitting quietly at the back next to Benji, her eyes literally glued onto her phone like she was really trying to avoid any interaction with any of us. She was usually cheerful and all smiles, but that morning she was moody and glum. I pretended not to notice her gloomy self and quickly shut the door behind me, hoping that she's doing okay - I still had no idea what had happened.
"Good morning, Vienna," Bondy greeted her.
"Good morning," she said back, her voice unusually husky.
"You okay?" I heard Benji whispered when he saw her, which affected me a bit because I wanted to be the first person to ask her that.
"Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?" she said. I could hear it in her voice. She was obviously not alright. I memorized the pitch of her 'alright' voice and that voice there was definitely not 'alright'.
"I don't know. You just seem... off. Are you feeling poorly?" Benji asked again, taking the seat next to her at the back of the van.
"No. I don't know what you're talking about. I'm fine, Benji," she answered softly. I tried not to look, but my head immediately turned around, catching her eye. They were still puffy from last nights crying, I could tell. I gave her a small nod and a smile.
I thought Vienna would smile in return, but instead, she frowned at me and looked away.
What the fuck?
Irritation bloomed in me as I watched Vienna working throughout the morning. She completely ignored me. And not in an aloof way like she just didn't care. No. Every look she wasn't giving me was very deliberate. She wanted me to know she was fuming. I just had no idea why she was so angry.
Once Bondy and I were done on air, I noticed Vienna disappearing down the hallway. Not able to stand her silent treatment for another second, I quickly followed her. I was going to get my answers, and I was going to get them now. I caught up with her when she was about to make her way to the elevator. Seeing that there's a closet room next to me, I quickly grabbed her elbow and pulled her in. She tried to resist but thank christ I was stronger.
"What are you doing?" Her hazel eyes burned when she looked up at me. She jerked her hand away while her eyes continued drilling holes into my head.
"We should talk."
"There's nothing to talk about, Van!" she bit out.
Wondering what the hell I had done to make her so mad at me, I quietly told her, "No. I disagree."
"Well, up to you then," she rolled her eyes as her hand reached out for the door knob. My hand was quicker though. I managed to push my weight against the door so it was impossible for her to make an escape.
"What is wrong with you?" Vienna gaped at me as I held her against the shelving frame behind her, placing her in between my arms which were held out like a barricade.
