Marlene's POV

This sucked!

There was everyone else going out there and enjoying themselves and here am I sitting at home and binge watching Game of Thrones.

A few minutes ago, mom had left for the supermarket and Leah was still at school so I was pretty bored.

These are the perks of having cancer kids. You can't do shit!

I don't know if this was normal in cancer patients, but I didn't feel cancerous. Probably it just took time to register. I felt weak and tired at the moment, and I think I had a temperature. But other than that, I was in pretty good condition.

That's the thing about cancer I guess, it eats you up from within and you don't realize it until your empty.

I still remember that day, a month ago. 18th August.

It had begun as a perfectly normal day with everyone at home yelling away as Leah and I ran to school, almost late. I remember entering my first period AP Calculus and thinking what a great day it was going to be.

I'd never been more wrong.

It all started going downhill after school. Our Biology students were doing a survey for a project or something like that and needed blood samples. I clearly remember everything from the moment when I entered the lab, till the moment the Bio student- Ethan, dropped an entire vial of blood after looking at my blood sample under a microscope.

I was dragged to the nurse's office without anyone answering my questions. That's when I'd started getting worried. What had Ethan seen in my blood?

Around an hour later, my mom arrived, her eyes puffy and red and took me to a hospital despite my pleads. I tried calling Leah but she didn't answer. After the nurse's pocked a million needles inside me and staying at home for two days without anyone giving me any answers, I got the news. I had leukemia and there was nothing I could do about.

Since then, I'd gone numb.

I didn't want to be burdened under the pain that I felt starting to rise inside, so I shut it up. I didn't want to realize that I had a limit and I had to go. I'd been trying to survive the past month by just convincing myself the this was a dream. But how long could I do it for?

"Mom, I'm home!" Leah's voice coming from the hall pulled me back. I put my hands to my face to wipe out the tears and found none. Good.

"Mom's not hear Leah," I called back as I settled down to continue with my show. A few minutes later Leah walked in. "Hey Mar."

Sometimes our similarities shocked me, even though I spent every of my life with her. She looked exactly like me except for a few minor differences that many failed to notice. I can't leave her behind.

"Hey! How was school?" I asked beaming. "Great," she said looking behind at the door as if it was about to bite. "There's someone here to meet you. You might want to look decent."

"Who is it?" I asked. I hadn't gotten many visitors cause not many people knew. Just close family and close friends.

"Oh a somebody," Leah replied a smile playing on her lips.

"Hmm," I said tapping my finger on my chin. "I smell testosterone."

"Yuck that's gross," she squealed with a laugh. "But you're right."

"I always am-" I began but had to cut myself short. The door opened and there leaning casually on the frame was the one and only. Ryden Andrews, complete with his black bed hair and green eyes gazing into mine.
