______________________________________Marlene's POV
He stood at the foot of the stairs in all his green eyed, black haired glory, a look of pain over his face.
The light emitted from the staircase seemed to make him shine and it was just like I'd seen him before. Only this time, the wings were missing.
I looked around me to see my bare feet standing on hot coals but I didn't feel the slightest amount of pain.
I looked at him and smiled but it wasn't reflected on his face. I held out my hand to him but he didn't take it.
"I want a forever sunshine," he whispered, his words echoing in my ears.
"You can't give me a forever," he continued looking straight at me. "You're limited and you're fading. That's not what I want from someone who's mine."
I was shocked.
"Don't do this to me Ryden," I whimpered his name burning my tongue.
The very figure that stood before me each time with wings, a smile and lips that always said the words, "I love you," were saying the very words I least wanted to hear.
I felt a stab in my chest as I saw another woman appear by his side. He hugged her, cupped her cheek in his hands and delicately placed his lips on hers, this gesture portraying an emotion that he never showed with me and my heart throbbed painfully to the beat of their moving lips.
His hands slid around her waist pulling her closer and her hands found their way to his hair as a soft moan escaped his lips making her smile.
They broke their kiss, both of them breathless but happy and she turned to face me with a look of pity and disgust.
That woman was me.
From her hair, to her body, to that pimple on her cheek, to her big feet, she was me!
I felt my heart flutter for a moment as I eyed her standing beside my man.
At that moment, our eyes met and I felt my entire world come crashing down. My knees buckled and I fell to the burning coal floor, that now scorched my skin.
She wasn't me. That girl with him wasn't me.
I should be there. But I wasn't.
She was.
The flames started to engulf me turning warmer and warmer but the pain of my burning skin was nothing compared to my shattered, betrayed heart.
My tears added fuel to the fire as he took her hand in his and they walked up the staircase, the light growing brighter and scorching my eyes, leaving me behind to burn.
They gazed into each others eyes and an emotion stronger than my pain transferred between them.
She was his.
She, Not me.
Her.
Leandrea.
______________________________________
I woke up in cold sweat to find my cheeks moist with tears. I glanced at the clock near my bed that said it was 5 in the evening.
Leah would be back anytime now.
She'd stayed over at Jessica's place yesterday and headed to school from there this morning. I was a bit sad that I was missing out on so much, but I was happy for her. She deserved to have some fun.
