Leandrea's POV

You'd normally associate Christmas with carols, snow, happiness and perfection.

Well so did I, till last year.

But now, the barren white land dotted with bare trees just reminded me of how dead I was inside.

All I did was exist.

Nothing I did ever mattered anymore.

Those smiles, empty.

Those dreams, broken.

That love, lost.

I shut my eyes surrendering myself to the warmth of the shower.

"Buck up Leah!" I heard Emma call. "You've been in there for ages!"

I nimbly stepped out of the cubicle, wrapped a towel around myself and headed out.

"Damn," Jessica whistled as I walked past her kitchen towards her bedroom. "You should check before walking around my house in a towel Lee. You don't wanna burn the place down do yah?"

I laughed, internally cringing at the false ring which it had and climbed up the stairs.

I wasn't up for this sleepover at Jess's place anyway because of five reasons.

1. I had no intention of socializing.

2. I needed time to myself.

3. Marlene.

4. Marlene.

5. Marlene.

She was all I could think of. None of this Christmas excitement mattered without her by my side.

Her absense had taken away the colour from my world, leaving me colour blind.

Sometimes I wondered weather she ever thought about me the way I do.

Did she stay awake all that replaying those memories?

Did she care about what I did and how I was?

Was her heart missing a piece like mine did?

The answer was clearly no.

All I'd ever done was wish for and give her the best of things and all she did was make the best of my givings.

She'd thrown all our years of memories, hugs, laughs and trust away for something as irrelevant as a misunderstanding.

I understand she might've interpreted the scene in the wrong way.

Ryden and I did fall asleep in a weird position, but it wasn't our fault.

She should've heard me out and believed me. She shouldn't have said what she did.

The truth was she didn't care and I did.

And now reality is that I don't care either.

Feeling better about my decision, I emerged from the room which Nat and I had been sharing dressed in sweats and a tank top.

I was still intimidated by the luxury of the Hastings Mansion. Now with the house empty, except for the 4 of us and a couple of servants, it was worse.

I felt the eyes of the portraits on the walls on me as I tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear. I quickly ran down the huge flight of stairs with the glass chandelier to the court yard where we'd decided to meet for dinner.

The courtyard was this beautiful place at the centre of the mansion, with a beautiful view of the stars. The posh garden which was well maintained, surrounded a pool that glistened with a magical glow in the moonlight.
