Chapter 25.
TAYLOR'S P. O. V.
I open my door and don't see my mom. She was supposed to be going to the dinner too, but Dad couldn't make it obviously because the restaurant.
"Mom?" I yell out, taking off my shoes and shrugging off my gray North Face jacket.
No reply.
I walk up the steps and again shout, "Mom?"
I hear a faint, "Here," come from her closed bedroom door. I enter and sure enough, my mom is in the closet bent over in search.
"What are you doing?"
"Looking for shoes." I nod, but she can't see me.
"Okay I just wanted to see if you were here. I'll go get changed." A groan comes from her and I know she's getting frustrated over finding shoes. I stifle a laugh and walk out of my parents' room and into mine.
In my closet, there isn't much stuff to choose from that I could go to a dinner party with. I already picked out dark jeans, I just need to pick a shirt now, and I literally don't have any nice tops.
"Mom!" I yell, sitting on my bed.
"What?"
"C'mere!"
Seconds later I hear footsteps coming in my room. "What do you need?" She finally has a pair of black small heels. I take the time to scan her outfit. She's wearing a black dress and has silver accessories, her hair in a tight bun with few loose strands.
"I don't know what shirt-" She was already in my closet now. The first thing she pulls out is the black flowy shirt that I wore to Zach's party. Memories from that night threaten to surface.
"No." I say immediately. The only thing good about that night is that Zach told me I look good when I was wearing that shirt. She rolls her eyes and digs through some more.
"Ooo, you could wear a dress and-,"
"Mom, c'mon you know me better than anyone."
She laugh and pulls out a gray shirt with ruffles. "How bout this?"
"Seriously, mom?" I laugh and she huffs. "I hope I get an other girl, and maybe this one will actually like dresses and skirts and butterflies."
I actually haven't thought about that. Am I going to get a brother or sister? What if I have a brother? Brothers are annoying, but I bet mine would be cute. I would make sure he would treat girls with respect and make sure he isn't gross all the time. If I had a sister, I would teach her how to not act snobby, rather appreciative and tell her to stay away from gossip, and help her with boy troubles. Actually no, I would make sure she stays away from boys. I feel a flutter of excitement in my stomach at the idea of having a sibling.
"Ah! This?" She takes out a white long sleeved shirt. The shoulders are a navy blue fading into a pink, and slides into a light yellow in rugged ends. The bottom of the shirt is white. I don't ever remember getting that shirt.
"Is that nice enough for a dinner party?" I ask, really hoping it is.
"I think so, it's not like they're going to kick you out because you're not dressed properly. Now hurry up and get ready!" She leaves my room, stumbling slightly with her small heels.
***
I close the door to the car and laugh at the way my mom tries to balance on her heels.
"You can't even balance in those shoes, why'd you wear them?"
