Chapter 35.
Taylor's P. O. V.
My mind is racing when I see Lauren's car pull up into the driveway.
This is a bad idea. I want to wave her off and tell her to go home and enjoy her day as much as she can before she finds out.
"Okay, okay, relax," I say to myself, attempting to calm down. I can't tell if it's working or not, and decide it definitely isn't when she's walking towards my door.
I move as fast as I can away from the window without getting dizzy, and open the door.
"Hey buddy, how are you feeling?" She inquires immediately as she steps into the room. I feel guilty and on the verge of committing homicide Lauren, thanks for asking.
"Lousy," I sum up.
She sets her book bag on the ground and her eyes quickly scan my face. Her eyebrows furrow in confusion and I know she knows something is up.
Zach left about an hour ago and met Bentley at the restaurant to talk to him. I wonder how far he's gotten, and if it's even worth saying anything to Lauren.
"You alright? You're looking a little, dead" Lauren says, giggling and heading towards the kitchen. I scoff internally.
"Yeah, yeah I'm good. I just wanted to talk-"
"Can you please make me these cinnamon rolls? I know you're sick and all but mama could really use something sweet," she says sweetly, pulling them out from the fridge drawer.
I'm almost grateful she cut me off, and sigh. "Yes, I'll make you some. Go find something on Netflix for us to watch, I'll be right there," I grimace. Why haven't I told her yet? I've got an awful feeling and I can't quite put my finger on it.
Preparing the cinnamon rolls and throwing them in the oven after it being set to the right temperature, I can feel my body aching. I really am sick, and I hate to admit it.
I slump onto the couch throwing my legs onto Lauren's lap, and see her pink nails tapping away on her phone, no doubt texting Blake. Now or never.
"Lauren I need to tell you something."
She hums and raises her eyebrows, still looking at her phone.
"It's serious," I mumble, half hoping she won't hear me so I wont have to say the rest.
"Yes my love, what is it," she asks, looking up with a smile. My best friend is so pretty, I can't believe that out of all the shitty people in the world, it had to have happened to her. She does not deserve anything like this. I reach for my phone, seeing as the picture will explain what I don't have to. Right as I unlocked my phone with a shaking hand, I received an incoming call from my mom. Now is definitely not the time. I decline, and head into my messaging app.
My mom calls again, and this time I answer. She usually never calls twice.
"Mom I'm-"
"Taylor! You need to come to the restaurant NOW. Zach and some blondie got into a fight and Zach stomped off. Me nor your father will tolerate this, especially not on our grounds. This is ridiculous!"
As she goes on, my face pales. I stand up as quick as I can manage while reaching for Lauren's keys. She can drive us there since I'm not in any shape to drive.
"Mom, relax please I'm coming now. I'm on my way," I try saying. What the fuck happened? Zach was just supposed to talk to this kid, not beat the shit out of him.
"Matter of fact, go find him and talk to him first. He looked like he was headed back to his house."
Lauren was paying full attention now, grabbing her keys from my hand. Perks of having a best friend, they know what you're thinking before you say your thoughts out loud. I point towards to door and push her a little, guiding her outside.
"Got it Mom, I'm sorry about this, I have no idea what's gotten into him. I'll-"
