Peter had been acting out lately. I mean I was his best friend, so he could tell me anything. But he's just been practising pick up lines on me. And it wasn't exactly fun, since I liked him as more than a friend, and it crushed me every time he used a pickup line on me, presumably practising for Liz or something. Now, in the cafeteria line, he was doing it again.

"Hey, Jess." I bit my lip to stop myself from groaning, looking behind me to where Peter stood with his tray in hand. "What?" Peter grinned, nudging me with his elbow. "Have you been sitting in sugar? Cause you've got a sweet ass." Unable to hold in my emotions now, I slammed my tray back onto the pile. "I've had enough of your bloody pickup lines, Parker. If you're going to use them on Liz, do it for god sake and put me out of my misery!" Leaving the students in front of me stunned, I stormed out of the cafeteria.

I found Michelle in the library, reading a complicated looking book. Without asking if I could sit, I sat down in the chair beside her. She barely looked up from her book before greeting me. "Welcome to the library. What brings you to my table?" I dumped my bag on the table, pulling out my chemistry homework. "Fucking Parker, that's what." Michelle leaned backwards in her chair, making a face. "Ugh. This is why I don't have friends. They're just trouble waiting to happen." While she had a point, this was Peter we were talking about. I'd know him for most of my life, he was my best friend in the whole wide world.

And yet I'd managed to fall in love with him. How fucked up was I? "Heads up. Peter just walked into the library." I looked around for a hiding place, deciding to duck under the table. "If he comes over here, say I'm with Liz!" Michelle just continued on with reading her book while I ducked under the table. I almost forgot about my bag, grabbing it off the table and ducking back under the table. It was just in time too, because Peter walked over right after. "Hey, Michelle, have you seen Jess?" Michelle shook her head, flipping a page in her book. "Nah. She went to go see Liz. Looked pretty mad too." From under the table, I heard Peter sigh. "Okay. I just wanted to apologise to her."

Michelle leaned forward in her chair, placing her book on the table. "What did you do anyway?" Peter grumbled to himself, and I saw his hand clench and unclench from where I was hiding. "I was using pickup lines on her because I wanted to ask her out. She wasn't taking me seriously though, and I'm pretty sure I pissed her off because she thought I was practising on her so I could ask out Liz." Michelle snorted softly, and she suddenly looked under the table, right at me. "You're an idiot, Jess." I groaned when Peter crouched, spotting me hiding under the table. "Jess? What're you doing under the table?"

I tried to think of an excuse, but Peter's face told me he knew the answer. Without any hesitance, he crawled under the table and joined me. It was a tight squeeze, but we both managed to fit in. With my side pressed up against Peter, he broke the silence. "I'm sorry I annoyed you with my pickup lines. I'm assuming you heard me talking to Michelle?" I nodded meekly, slightly embarrassed to be caught eavesdropping. "So you're aware now that I, uh, like you?" I nodded again, smiling this time. Peter was going red, and it was made worse when I leaned over to kiss his cheek.

"Don't worry. I like you too." A smile crept onto Peter's face, but the moment was ruined by Michelle. "So are you guys done under the table yet? I want my feet space back."
