(Y/N) walked into the office, letting out a quiet, yet relieved sigh as warmth began to seep into her bones. It wasn't much, no, but it was enough to keep her content.
At least, until she glanced up.
Nessa was still there, curled up in Steven's arms as Steven lightly kissed her older sister's tear tracks. The woman's face was tilted up, her eyes closed, which wouldn't seem odd if (Y/N) hadn't known that her sister had issues with trusting people. She would rarely, if ever, allow herself to be so vulnerable around somebody else.
She stopped dead in her tracks and gave a strangled noise at the sight in front of her. Steven and Nessa were a thing? A couple?
What the hell?
The two of them startled at the sound of (Y/N)'s shock, jumping apart from each other. Nessa blanched as she looked at her younger sister.
"(Y/N)!" she cried. She rushed up to her, checking her over for any injuries.
Now that she was this close to her sister, (Y/N) could see new tears sparkling in her eyes. Surprise flashed through her as she looked into Nessa's golden eyes. There was genuine concern. Panic. Worry.
Now that she thought about it, (Y/N) supposed that running off after almost dying may have contributed to that.
"Where have you been?" she demanded. "Are you hurt? Did something else happen while you were gone? Did you get another flare?" She placed her hands on (Y/N)'s shoulders, looking desperately at her younger sister.
(Y/N) was taken aback by the onslaught. She didn't know which question to answer first, if she even wanted to answer any. She was beginning to feel overstimulated.
Steven walked over and gently pulled Nessa away from the girl. He slipped his hand into hers. "Shh... calm down," he murmured gently, sweeping a black curl behind Nessa's ear.
The woman rested her head on his shoulder, almost an automatic response.
(Y/N)'s eyes were locked on the two of them, still in total shock. How long had they been doing things like this? How long had they been sneaking around to meet each other?
Was she the reason they met?
"What the hell, you guys?" she finally spat out, too surprised to ask in a more polite tone. It was just too strange, having her co-worker and her older sister in a relationship. Especially where, in this relationship, they discussed (Y/N) and her health behind her back way too much for comfort.
Steven sighed. "It was an accident," he began. "When Nessa found out -"
(Y/N) made an odd noise in the back of her throat. "What was an accident?" she asked in a strangled voice. She turned to face Nessa, her eyes wide. "Like, an accident that isn't as... horrifying? Or was it more of a 'happy accident'?"
"I'm not pregnant, (Y/N)," she replied sternly.
"Oh." The girl looked down at her feet. "Good."
The scarred man cleared his throat uncomfortably. (Y/N)'s suspicions arose once again.
She fixed Nessa with an odd look. "That means you two didn't... go at it, right?" She desperately hoped the answer was no - it was make the situation even weirder.
Her sister went red. "Th-that's besides the point," she stammered. "What matters is that we are both worried about you, so don't make this whole ordeal about Steven and I."
(Y/N)'s stomach dropped. "Oh my gosh," she whispered in a horrified voice. "You two had sex together." She ran her hands through her hair, making it stick up wildly. "My bloody co-worker and sister did the dirty deed!"
