Maybe..

Will frowned at his feet as he walked through the streets aimlessly.

It had been a week since he ruined everything with (Y/N). Well, that's what he assumed, rather. After all, she knew that he was lying to her.

A week...

A week since he looked into her (E/C) eyes and saw the sadness and emptiness so deep and complete that he almost drowned. A week since he lied straight to her face. One damn week since he lied to her face and she saw something that he'd never wanted to show her.

And now here he was, taking the walk that his sister had insisted he take. Although, maybe the word 'insisted' was a bit underwhelming - Mary had very nearly forced Will out with physical violence.

Will shivered as a cold breeze cut through his hoodie, a frown flickering over his face. He wasn't sure what was going on, but if Mary was that desperate for him to leave, then that meant that at least something was going on.

Leaving behind the tall buildings, Will entered the large park. Dead leaves crunched under his feet, punctuating his whirling thoughts.

He shook his head slightly, trying to clear his mind of everything that was going on. The moments where his mind was clear were becoming much too few and far between.

He grimaced at that reminder. More and more black holes gaped in his head, more fuzziness, headaches, and emptiness. Will hated the fact that Despair seemed to have more and more sway over him. It had gotten so much worse in the past month.

Which, of course had to be when he and (Y/N) started to hang out a lot more.

Ugh.

And now he was back to thinking about his problems with the (H/C)-haired girl. Absolutely fantastic.

Will wanted to scream.

A soft noise of surprise distracted him from his thoughts for a moment. His eyes snapped up to see his own surprised face mirrored back to him by a familiar, beautiful face.

"Will?"

"(Y/N)?"

The two said the other's name at the same time before immediately falling into a bemused silence. (Y/N)'s brows were crinkled as her brilliant (E/C) eyes traced over Will's face. Anxiety clutched at his heart - he definitely didn't think that he'd be face to face with her so soon.

Great. Fantastic. What am I supposed to do?

He finally broke the silence with a nervous laugh. "It seems fate keeps on bumping us into each other, huh?" he warbled, trying to keep his cool. Almost immediately after the words escaped his mouth, Will wished that he could hit himself.

Fate? Yeah right. Misfortune, most likely, he thought bitterly.

A wry smile twisted up the corners of (Y/N)'s lips. "For some reason, I get the feeling that 'fate' isn't the one that keeps matching us up."

Will stared at her blankly. She was implying something, but what could she possibly be -

Oh.

Right.

"White and Leo," he finally hissed. "Or course." He pinched the bridge of his nose as a headache began to bloom behind his temples. How could he have been so stupid?

(Y/N)'s face was oddly blank, like she was trying to keep her feelings from sprinting across his face wildly. Her eyes, however, were churning with what looked like a million thoughts and emotions, jockeying for the top position.

"Yep," she finally settled on saying eloquently.

Will sighed longsufferingly. "No wonder Mary wanted me to take a walk." A small, tense smile flashed over his face for an instant. "I'm so stupid." He rubbed his temples in an attempt to ease the headache.

(Y/N) hummed lightly. "Leo wanted me to pick up some food." She looked up at the sky like she was looking for answers. "I didn't even consider the fact that it was past lunchtime. And the fact that I picked up lunch then as well."

Finally, her eyes dropped down and met Will's eyes. Hissing through her teeth irritably, she muttered, "I am such an idiot."

Will snorted in response. "To make you feel better, Mary told me specifically" - he paused and gave (Y/N) a significant look - "to go through the park. Not like that had any warning signs."

His words sparked a grin on (Y/N)'s face - the first one he'd seen in a while.

"Our two little matchmakers, huh?" she remarked dryly.

A smile was gifted onto Will's face as well. "Our two little matchmakers," he agreed.

Rolling her eyes, (Y/N) gave a quick, humorless chuckle. However, when she glanced up at him, she had that small smile that she always seemed to reserve for him.

"Honestly, we should just give them a taste of their own medicine at this point," Will chuckled nervously.

(Y/N) gave a short bark of laughter at that, turning her head away from him. Will would've been pleased at the fact that she was finally laughing... had he not seen her reach up and wipe underneath her nose.

It was just for a moment, but Will was pretty sure that (Y/N)'s hand was smeared with dark red blood.

His heart froze for a moment, even as his mind began to churn wildly.

Is she dying? What's going on? Is she hurt, is she hurt, is she hurt? Can I do anything? No, you can't, stupid, you'd only make things worse. You ruin everything already on your own, but now it's worse, just don't even try, pathetic boy, idiot boy, stop stop stop...

But then (Y/N) looked back at him with a calm look, putting his thoughts to rest. There was no remnant of blood under her nose - everything's fine then, right? - and she certainly didn't look like she was as sickly as the week before.

Right?

"I seriously need to get your phone number," Will laughed lightly. He hoped the feeling of buzzing nervousness would fade away with the chuckle. "I would like to meet up one time without being surprised."

She grinned back. "Sounds good. Let me just..." She poked around in her pockets for a moment before a frown flashed over her face. "Ah, if I... hadn't forgotten my phone." With a grimace, she rubbed the back of her neck.

"I left mine back at the hospital," Will mumbled, flushing as well. Why hadn't he realized that before? "Sorry, (Y/N)."

"Okay." (Y/N) shrugged. "Don't worry. I have a pen." She fished it out her pocket and held out her hand to him. "May I?"

Will blinked at her for a moment. "Huh?"

Then it hit him. "Oh!" He shyly offered her his hand. "Knock yourself out."

He flinched as she pressed the nib of the pen against his skin - he'd always been ticklish - but calmed as she continuing her scribbling numbers. She stuck her tongue out in concentration as she finished her phone number.

(Y/N) capped the pen and stuck it back in her pocket quickly, glancing back up at him.

She caught his curious look in the brief moment that he allowed it to flash over his face. "Don't ask why I have a pen, dude. I don't know why it was in my pocket."

Will laughed goodnaturedly, but that wasn't what he was confused (no, concerned) about.

No, what he was worried about was: why did (Y/N) have multiple blood streaks on the edges of her sleeves?

An uneasy feeling swept through him.
