Will frowned down at the fading bruise around his wrist instead of looking around desperately for (Y/N). He would rather still worry over his misfortune than nitpick at every reason why she was late.

Maybe she thought you were boring, a half of his mind told him.

No, Will snapped right back at it. I'm not listening to that. (Y/N)'s a nice girl and I'm not that bad.

That shut the voice up nicely. Will almost breathed a sigh of relief. He was glad he managed to keep his thoughts from going down that path.

What if she got hurt though? another voice offered in the silence. What if she was killed while she was coming over?

Immediately, he blanched at the thought. Hellsalem's Lot was unforgiving, he knew, so it wasn't completely out of the question. But the thought of such a wonderful girl being killed... it left a sour taste in Will's mouth.

He nervously worried at his already battered lips. At this point, they were probably bleeding and bruised from his anxiety.

Hells... (Y/N)...

"Oh my goodness, Will! I'm sorry I'm late!"

The voice startled Will from his thoughts. His eyes flashed up to see a beautifully familiar wild-haired girl jogging across the field, waving at him. He took in bandages wrapped around her arm, the bruises already coloring her skin, and a large bandage strapped to her cheek. Concern spread through his chest even as he sighed in relief.

(Y/N) wasn't dead, at least.

But that was about the extent that his relief spread.

He stood up, frowning deeply. "Are you okay?"

She slid to a stop in front of him, staring up at him with wide red eyes. "What are you- oh! My bandages." (Y/N) laughed nervously, rubbing the back of her neck. "Yeah, that was an accident. Guess you're not the only one that ends up getting stuck in places you shouldn't be!"

Even though there was a lighthearted tone to her voice, Will was pretty sure he could hear how shaken up she was. His worry mounted.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Will asked. He just barely stopped himself from brushing back a wayward strand of hair that had fallen in front of (Y/N)'s eyes.

Heat flared up in his cheeks. Sometimes he forgot that he shouldn't be so familiar with (Y/N) already. She felt like an old friend after the so few meetings with her and it was becoming hard to remind himself that he'd only just met her. Any gesture like that would be too familiar, too strange in their new relationship.

She tilted her head slightly, considering his question. "I... think so?" An uncertain frown quirked a corner of her lips down.

Now it was Will's turn to tilt his head curiously. "You think so? What do you mean?"

She shrugged helplessly.

"It's Hellsalem's Lot, Will. What am I supposed to say? 'Yep, I just got caught in the middle of a bank robbery with monsters and really weird bio-engineered guns, everything's fine!'" (Y/N) rolled her eyes at the absurdity of her statement. "Everything in this city is totally out of whack and it's confusing, but I think I can deal with it."

"O-okay?" Will wasn't sure what to do with that information. He shook his head slightly, trying to clear out his confusion. (Y/N) was always going to be strange, he supposed. "Right, well. I guess we can go for another walk?" His voice lilted up in an uncertain way. He felt like he should probably do something cooler with her, but what could he do?
