Promises Unintended

Will woke up feeling exhausted. His head ached and his eyes felt itchy - remnants from his crying fit the night before.

He couldn't remember a time when he didn't feel exhausted. Between using his powers and trying to keep Despair at bay (sometimes unsuccessfully), he barely had any time to rest.

After a considerable effort, he pushed himself up into a seated position. He stared out the window as gray light filtered in through the glass. He hadn't bothered to buy any curtains or blinds - he had never really seen the point. It wasn't like he ever got undressed in front of the window, and even if he did, nobody would see anything from the armpits down. It would just end up being money wasted.

Heaven knew that Will couldn't afford to waste money.

The thought of it left a sour taste in his mouth. He remembered the first time he thought that he didn't have enough money for Mary's hospital bill. His heart had dropped and tears had filled his eyes. Somehow, however, Will managed to pay it in full.

That week in particular was exhausting. He had taken up as many odd jobs as possible while still managing to maintain his job at LHOS as a caster.

Ever since that week, Will had gotten donations towards Mary's hospital bill from some of his co-workers - namely Angelica. It had taken some of the edge off of his anxiety, but it didn't stop him from worrying about everything else.

He sighed. He really had no wish whatsoever to leave his crappy apartment. None at all.

Just as he was about to collapse on his pillow once again, a sharp ding went through the apartment.

Will jumped slightly in alarm before remembering that he had been too lazy to change the notification sound on his phone to something less startling. It didn't help that his ringer was turned all the way up - he could probably thank Mary for that. It didn't matter what she could do, as long as she could play around with it, she would. Countless selfies of her and multiple alarming sounds proved just that.

Opening the phone, he saw that he had just gotten a message from Leo. It read:

Hey, can I ask you a huge favor??? Could you come over to Central Park?? (Y/N)'s super pissed and I can't cheer her up on my own. I'm so sorry if this is a bother!!

The blonde boy stared at the words for a couple seconds, trying to wrap his exhausted mind around them. The first thing that he noticed was that Leo apparently used excess punctuation marks. It was a couple more minutes before the words' meaning sunk in.

His eyes widened slightly as a heat spread across his cheeks at the thought of being around (Y/N). Not only did he realize that he had a huge crush on her, which would make it difficult to act normal around her, but she was going to be angry. He didn't know what that would end up looking like, but he was nervous. The only other time he had seen her less than happy and bubbly was when she was talking to Leo back at the hospital.

Before he could stop himself, however, Will texted back. It read:

Sure, I'll be there soon. 20 min tops.

He sent the message. As his actions sunk in, he froze, his face going white. He was actually going to go try and cheer up a furious (Y/N). Had he really said that he'd be there in twenty minutes? There was just no way that he could get there in time.

He resisted the urge to send another message cancelling his promise. He would just show up looking like a mess and hope that (Y/N) wouldn't notice.

Jumping up, he scrambled to his closet. His eyes skimmed over the meager collection of clothes before snatching up his normal black hoodie and jeans. He really didn't have the time to think of any other fashion choices - he really needed to get going soon.
