Will walked into the hospital, it's light glowing oddly warm for such a detached setting. He held a crinkly brown bag full of cookies in his hands - for Mary. They were her favorites, he knew, and he wanted to give her a little gift after blowing her off for the past couple days. It wasn't his fault however - he hadn't exactly been the one in control.
However, he still felt bad. He hoped that Leo had come in and brought Mary's mood up - otherwise she was going to be thoroughly pissed off.
"You know, I think you'd really like my friend," Will heard somebody say from the hospital room. The voice sounded familiar - was it Leo? Probably. After all, who else would visit Mary?
"You really think so?" Mary asked. She sounded genuinely excited. The tone of her voice made Will hurt inside as he remembered the fact that she hadn't left the hospital in three years. At least Leo was trying to get her to meet new people.
He pushed the door open, entering his sister's room.
"Hey, White. Hey, Leo," he greeted, waving to the two of them.
Mary straightened, green eyes sparkling as she saw her twin brother.
"Black!" she exclaimed happily. "Did you hear what Leo said? He's going to introduce me to his friend!"
Will smiled. "That's awesome, White." He turned to Leo, who was standing awkwardly by his chair. It seemed like he had jumped up to greet Will. "May I meet this friend of yours as well?"
"Oh! Yeah, of course. I mean, she's a little crazy, but she grows on you." Leo grinned fondly at the thought of his friend.
Will didn't know why, but his mind suddenly jumped to that crazy girl that he had met earlier today. But the chances of Leo knowing her were rather unlikely. Will chastised himself for his ridiculous thoughts. He was never going to see that girl again - he needed to come to terms with that.
Before he could stop himself, Will asked, "Is she your girlfriend?"
Leo paused, staring at Will with his squinty eyes.
"Excuse me?" he responded, a laugh in his voice. "I'm sorry, that just caught me off guard. I've never actually seen her like that - she is most certainly just a friend. Although, I guess we could date at some point in the future - who knows?" He shrugged, smiling. "I don't think that'll end up happening though."
Mary rested her chin on her hand, looking up at Leo with a small frown. Will almost asked her why she was so angry, but then he remembered that she had a thing for Leo. The thought of another girl being close enough to him to be his girlfriend probably irritated her. He hoped that Mary would get over her petty attitude once she actually met Leo's friend. An unhappy Mary meant an unhappy everyone.
"So when do you think we're going to meet this wonderful person?" Mary asked. She glared sulkily up at Leo. It was almost funny, watching her mood switch from excited to meet Leo's friend to angry at the very thought of her.
Yep, she's definitely mad.
Leo either ignored the sharpness of her voice or he didn't catch on. "Maybe as soon as Saturday. I should probably check with her before we set that in stone though." He chuckled awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head. "She probably wouldn't appreciate that. Especially if she has a case or something."
Will walked to Mary's bed, putting down the brown paper bag on her bedside table. Mary glanced back to her brother. Her bitterness was apparent on her face, so Will frowned at her, trying to get the message across.
"Case?" he asked distractedly.
Mary stuck out her tongue at him. He gave her a disapproving look.
