Things were awkward again. And it was all Will's fault.
He wanted to throw himself off a cliff or something. At least then he wouldn't have to deal with the embarrassment of weirding out the one girl he liked.
When (Y/N) had pulled him out his oncoming depressive slump, he had been grateful. He had never met anybody who could do that for him. Never. Not even Mary could achieve the feat. But the girl whom he had known for maybe - what, one, two weeks? - had easily brightened his mood.
And then he had to ruin it all over again.
He bit his lip as he shoved his hands back into his pockets. A side-long glance at (Y/N) told him that she was now rather uncomfortable. A frown filled her face as the sadness he had tried to get rid of earlier now crept back into her eyes.
Feeling like he had failed her, he forced out the words, "Well, um, I-I guess we're here." It was difficult to say them around his tightening throat. He didn't know why, but the thought of upsetting (Y/N) made him feel like crying.
She gave him a soft smile. Despite everything, it looked genuine. And it seemed to Will that it was a little sad. "Awesome," was all she said.
The sound of her voice affirmed Will's suspicions. She was definitely sad. All of his attempts of cheering her up from earlier and he still hadn't done a thing. It was no wonder - after all, he was completely and entirely useless.
Will wanted to take her by the hand again and lead her in, but he restrained himself. He settled for simply opening the door for her instead.
"After you," he said quietly, his voice sounding distant.
(Y/N) stayed where she was for just a moment, staring at Will like she wanted to tell him something. Emotion swirled in her brilliant (E/C) eyes - desperation, anxiety, pain. Her mouth opened slightly, her brows furrowing. She was clearly preparing herself to speak.
But then the moment passed. Her mouth snapped closed.
Her gaze dropped to the ground as the previously soft smile turned sharp. She looked... angry? Disappointed? If she were feeling any of those emotions, he had to wonder about who they were directed at. Him? Or was it that loved one she had mentioned earlier - the one she said she gotten into a fight with?
"Thank you," she murmured, brushing past him lightly. Her (E/C) eyes flashed up to meet his stare and the smile once again shifted to a kinder one. "Seriously, Will... thanks."
A blush suddenly warmed his cheeks. "N-no problem," he stammered.
He heard a quiet chuckle in response to his nervousness. He felt his face grow even hotter. He had no clue why, but whenever he was around (Y/N), he felt like he was permanently blushing.
A quick glance to the (H/C)-haired girl told him that she was already feeling better, whatever she had been thinking of now far behind her.
Feeling a smile tugging at his own lips, he supposed he wasn't as hopeless as he had originally thought. He followed her into the small shop.
It was warmer inside, fortunately. Scanning the room, Will hoped that just the decor would help improve (Y/N)'s mood. He personally enjoyed the small, clean room and the pastel colors and the tall boundaries between the booths.
As he walked in, however, he accidentally ran into the girl. He hadn't been looking where he was going.
The two of them toppled to the ground. He felt a rush of horror when he realized that on the way down, he had accidentally kneed her in the back.
